You really don't see the distinction?

Republicans are majority white. Nobody with sense would argue that it's racist against whites to generalize about Republican political ideology. It's a political party that people actively chose based on a kinship with its written platform and traditions.

It would be racist (and stupid) though to generalize about white political ideology.

This whole exchange kicked off because a dumb guy generalized about the evil tendencies, not of a particular political faction united under a shared ideology, but of all people with white skin, full stop.
