incidentally, i just thought of (remembered) the hype machine (http://hypem.com/) the other day and how it used to be such a good discovery mechanism and useful resource and how streaming changed audio blogs. i know soundcloud interfaced with it, but i'm not sure about youtube and spotify. i'm glad to see it's still online because it is a neat artifact of its era, as has become soundcloud. i am totally with those of you who talked up its less mainstream side (i.e., the unsigned artists who comprise the majority of its content, at least before "go" and those annoying 30-second clips that autopopulate famous artists' profiles now for those of us without a go subscription).

i really loved exploring soundcloud in the early 2010s. i still occasionally listen and explore there and hope it gets saved. a lot of music you won't find anywhere else, probably ever, to say nothing of its unique social content. it will be a very sad day if this site disappears.
