13167284, When women ask other women if they've gained weight
Posted by godleeluv, Tue Jun-20-17 05:17 PM
When women ask other women if they've gained weight that's some messed up stuff right there I've witnessed it firsthand and it hurts even if it's followed by well your face still looks pretty though. I thought of five different ways that I should've responded to that lady but I just said thank you

"wow, you have really put on weight!"

A question at least is showing a possibility of being wrong.

I have actually lost weight. I have an 18 month old son and I work out with a personal trainer not as much as I should but often enough. It's not that I feel any way about myself. It's the fact that this stranger thought it was ok so say something like that to me or any other female. I'm pretty sure she says inappropriate things often.

I wasn't even her sales rep.

What would be her motivation to say, well your face still looks pretty tho

Isn't she implying whatever the change weight wise it made me not look pretty body wise?

I'm not built for this emerging social norm of passive-aggressiveness, fake smiles, tongue-in-cheek snark and bottled rage.

I really don't like how folks are trying to force (shame) everyone into that way of being.
13167451, yet, there still needs to be discretion, right?

Yeah in the OP she said some follow it up with well your face still looks pretty though.

Nobody is asking did you gain weight to compliment you if you are not one of those super models with bones showing.
13167486, That comment isn't negative to me
Posted by flipnile, Wed Jun-21-17 10:13 AM
I lift tho, so if someone commented that I gained weight then I'd say thanks.

That makes my point above. I'm not tiptoeing around anyone's arbitrary feelings about some shit, and I'm not allowing folks to define for me what is and isn't appropriate based on their emotions.

Plus, it was another woman saying that to her. I can't imagine being offended by SOME DUDE making comments about my body.
