Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air (comedy, politics, show business)
Bodega Boys (comedy)
My Brother, My Brother and Me (comedy, specifically a very abstract, nerdy take on Dear Anne type columns)
Still Processing (current events, music and film, Wesley Morris of NYT)
Revisionist History (I think this is coming back soon?)
How Did This Get Made? (comedy, specifically deep dives on B and C and F tier movies)

Waypoint Radio (video games from a political and analytical perspective)
Glixel Podcast (video games from an international perspective. only listen when the subject matter catches my eye)
The Ringer NBA Show (I used to hate Chris Vernon for his radio-man voice but I've come to appreciate it and the guests he gets are good)
The Watch (TV, film and music, off and on depending on whether I've seen what they're talking about or not)

Channel 33 (mainly for Bryan Curtis' media insider talks, I love the history of sportswriting and the idea of newspaper criticism)
The Bill Simmons Podcast
The Giant Beastcast (video games, Giant Bomb's east coast office, far funnier)
The Giant Bombcast (video games, Giant Bomb's west coast office, far more informative)
Jalen & Jacoby

Pod Save America
Code Switch
Planet Money
The Smartest Man in the World
The Crab Feast
Yo, Is this Racist?

Decode DC
Tim Ferris Show (from time to time)
Bodega Boys
The Drink Champs (I think it peaked but I check in every few weeks)
The Monday Morning Podcast with Bill Burr

shit I USED to listen to
The Black guy who tips
This week in blackness (fuckin' fuck this show...its good when its good but I think Elon constantly stretches himself which is why they have a ton of great shows that never continued, lots of starts and stops and people who keep quiting)
Alonzo Bodden's Who's Paying Attention
Mr. Moody's Neighborhood
13161357, why do you not listen to The Black Who Tips anymore?
Posted by PROMO, Wed May-31-17 04:09 PM
just curious.
13161366, 40 fucking minutes of shoutouts and introductions, plus...
Posted by double negative, Wed May-31-17 04:27 PM
it just became too...like a damn insiders club

a good podcast will hook you on first listen without needing context. this show was filled with too many in-jokes and to be honest, 2 plus hours is way too fucking long for a show

lastly, i have a love hate relationship with the wife's accent. sometimes i like it and sometimes its like grease on glass.
13161371, yeah, i feel all of that.
Posted by PROMO, Wed May-31-17 04:43 PM
i was just curious.

i only tune in now for Walking Dead and Game of Thrones recap eps because those are done very well for the most part.

when those things aren't happening, i'm 100% checked out.
13170827, That's why I had to give up on Fiyastarter...
Posted by Frank Mackey, Mon Jul-03-17 04:05 PM
Podcasts are usually 3+ hours
Sound is still all fucked up after all this time
I listen to podcasts at like 1.75 speed, so the bad sound = impossible to listen to anymore

13161296, Sword & Scale, Thinking Sideways, Drink Champs, Undisclosed
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed May-31-17 02:13 PM
Sword & Scale is a pretty solid true crime podcast. Once in awhile he delves into something extremely dark though but he's pretty good at giving fair warning so you can bail.

Thinking Sideways is about unsolved mysteries. Episodes focus on mysteries that range from missing persons to vanishing ships to odd noises that cannot be accounted for and attempt to figure it out. The downside is they'll occasionally take on subjects where they clearly have limited understanding and/or didn't thoroughly research.

Drink Champs- NORE and DJ EFN interview hip hop legends. All around great show. Get's a little too thick in the grabass department when NORE and his guests start slobbing down each other's catalog but it's nice to see a show that oozes love unlike some of the more contentious shows in the genre. I usually don't dig obnoxious host but NORE is genuinely infectious to me. Like, I want to hang out with that dude.

Undisclosed originated as a podcast that served to improve upon Serial's take on the Adnan Syed case. I've seen some criticism of bias because Rabia had a personal relationship with Syed, but I think that's because the evidence presented in her podcast favors Adnan far more than it did in Serial. Personally all that matters to me is whether or not the evidence as presented is objective and I give it high marks for that.

Undisclosed has since evolved into broader territory, telling stories of other cases of injustice, be it merely suspected or glaring. They did a complete breakdown of the Freddie Gray case, for example.

13161591, Been working my way through the Dead Blondes episodes
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jun-01-17 12:33 PM
After that I think I'm going for the Joan Crawford episodes, though I've thought about doing the Blacklist stuff (listened to the Arthur Miller ep as a follow-up to the Marilyn Monroe three-parter). The Manson stuff sounds really good too.
13170206, Finished up the Manson series. Shit was insanely good
Posted by Mynoriti, Fri Jun-30-17 12:59 PM
I want to get into the blacklist, but I know it's gonna be mad depressing, so I'm pretty much just bouncing around picking random episodes.

13161467, Several of the same listed above, here are a few I didn't see
Posted by Cam, Thu Jun-01-17 09:06 AM
The Ezra Klein Show - Great in-depth interviews from a variety of people.
NYT's The Daily - Articles of the day, beyond just breaking news.
NPR's Up First - Breaking news update, told in 15 mins every AM.
Freakanomics Radio - I'm not really a fan of Dubner, but the topics are generally captivating and informative, similar to Planet Money.

& my top recommendation...

Charlie Murphy Presents - A pod that I didn't discover until after his death. The format is close to Race Wars, except the personalities are better. Murphy is full of stories, similar to why we all enjoyed him on The Chappelle Show, he seamlessly blends them into topical group discussions. An example, somehow he was able to tell the story about beating a court case in a child abuse allegation by a Nanny, in the wake of his wife's tragic death from cancer resulting in newly-single-parenthood, and remove all tragedy and convey a comedic and positive tone. The man was a natural comedian, without telling jokes. I've been taking my time listening to all of the episodes (less than 20).
13161736, Also, Charlie makes random predictions every episode.

Made by the guys who did The Jinx on HBO. It takes a look at crime, organized or other wise, in cities throughout the U.S. First season, which covered Providence, RI, just finished.

Speaking for myself, I listen to your show religiously. It helps me get through the long and sometimes frustrating commute to/from work.

I do wish that the Frocast would expand and start making $$ through sponsorships, tours, etc. like some of the other podcasts.

Oh, love the sound bite from your wife. Kind of wish it was an intro to a rap song! Lol

CNN political commentator Angela Rye is launching a new weekly podcast called “On 1 with A. Rye.”

Perfect title!

Her show, which debuts on July 12, will focus on politics and current events, through the lens of pop culture. One of her first guests will be none other than Congresswoman Maxine Waters.

It was formally called TrueHoop but the layoffs at ESPN caused the layoff of the writer who ran TrueHoop and caused a name change.

The podcast was initially canceled, but the support of fans actually saved the show.
