Donald Trump Is Signing Executive Orders That He Doesn’t Read or Understand

So it turns out the “President Bannon” talk is more accurate than any of us thought.

Today might have been the first morning of Donald Trump's presidency when he woke up feeling good about the news. After all, even though his "Why do you call it a Muslim ban? Only I'm allowed to call it a Muslim ban" Muslim ban has been halted by the courts, he is good friends with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, and they just pulled off an improbable comeback to win the Super Bowl. I'm sure that game gave him a bit of a spring in his step this morning. It sure would be terrible if someone ruined Trump's good mood by writing about what a flaming car fire his administration has been. It would be even more of a shame if it turned out said writing featured a damning revelation that was buried deep within a Sunday night New York Times piece. So let's do it!

Speaking with several White House aides and staffers anonymously, Glenn Thrush and Maggie Haberman of the Times counted the ways the Trump regime has been a disaster in one of the most damning paragraphs I've ever read about a politician. For some background, you'll remember that last week Donald Trump signed an executive order appointing Steve Bannon to the National Security Council. It was a move that granted Bannon unprecedented power for a political operative. Many across the country were furious, and cable news spent days talking about it. Well, turns out Donald Trump had no idea what he was signing.
For the moment, Mr. Bannon remains the president’s dominant adviser, despite Mr. Trump’s anger that he was not fully briefed on details of the executive order he signed giving his chief strategist a seat on the National Security Council, a greater source of frustration to the president than the fallout from the travel ban.
So there are only two options here. Donald Trump either read this executive order and did not understand what placing Steve Bannon on the National Security Council (especially at the expense of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence) would mean, which is terrifying...OR Donald Trump didn't read the fucking executive order that he signed. Some people would say we should give Trump the benefit of the doubt and assume he just didn't understand and wasn't properly briefed (WHICH, AGAIN, IS HORRIFYING IN AND OF ITSELF), but then you get to this gem from the Times piece:
For a man who sometimes has trouble concentrating on policy memos, Mr. Trump was delighted to page through a book that offered him 17 window covering options.
And then you remember this little nugget from Politico a couple weeks back:
One person who frequently talks to Trump said aides have to push back privately against his worst impulses in the White House...and have to control information that may infuriate him. He gets bored and likes to watch TV.
Yeah. There's no way this asshole is reading the things he's signing. Republicans...no...any politician...no...any American who isn't standing up to this guy is putting the country at risk. Who knows what President Bannon will have him sign next? It's not like that guy has any terrifying ideas or anything.
