I can take him to task on specific things he says, but he says them in a precise way to avoid being the worst of what he gets accused of. he means well and isn't what the alt-right think he is. but he's coasting on their stupidity by speaking on a small % of an illiberal left. it's a hustle - and he isn't "that dude".
