I know, I know. You can revoke my black card later. But bruh, some of this shit is GOOD.

Woven Hand - Aint No Sunshine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzesfqXqMhk

Townes Van Zandt - To Live is to Fly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eSggloAtBo

Big Blood - Oh Country (Skin & Bones)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCRmntHcJto

this joint is more of a country/rock/emo hybrid, but still flames:
Pinegrove - Old Friends
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAtGGZjVRdo

This country shit is perfect music for Autumn. Any recs?
13107397, This Townes Van Zandt playlist is pretty epic:

I can't listen to 'Flyin' Shoes' without tearing up. Lyle Lovett's cover might even be better than the original.
13107411, Johnny Cash, obviously

Esp A Boy Named Sue
13107412, Steve Earle is my shit

He is the ex addict dude who helps Bubbles in the Wire. Also had a heroin problem in real life but his music is great.
13107544, I just heard of Chris Stapleton.

I only listen to country by chance. I came across him on the tiny desk concerts on YouTube. What do y'all think about him?
Tennessee Whiskey is the truth.
13107545, I'll admit there is a certain subset that is actually likeable

but the bad shit is just so bad that I stay away entirely. People say the same thing about rap though. Its not for me, but I do like being surprised every once in a while.
13107684, pretty much how i feel.

also, i prefer my guitars electric for the most part, so that acoustic twang is hard to get past after a bit for me personally. (this not to say there's NO electric guitar in country, btw)
13107552, I had to go through Blues to get there

13107679, This stuff's not really country
Posted by lonesome_d, Mon Dec-19-16 03:50 PM
well, the Townes is sort of, but in a not-really-country sort of way.

hadn't heard this. Interesting. Based on descriptions I might check out more. But country's not what I would have thought based on this sone.

Beautiful song, and you can hear the bones of a country song in it, but that's basically a demo outside of genre.
Townes is one of those country guys though whose sort of more loved by people who don't like country, but like Townes.

That's not country at all, really. Maybe sort of a bit of 'contemporary folk' flair to it, but not country.

Also much more 'contemporary folk' than country (or rock, really).

Absolutely.

If you like that stuff:
-Lowland Hum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-6Dtiw2LYI

-The Avett Brothers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0eSpAgqrWo

-Ben Sollee (my wife's favorite, damn good cellist singer/songwriter): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMh_6CsfBwk (that one's from a duo album with Daniel Martin Moore)

Lemme know how those do you and I'll get you more if you want.
