But there is no way in HELL that it's not conservative. The tea party faction and the GOP establishment hate each other to such an extent that they aren't voting for each other. Which means they almost ARE two seperate parties or at least operating as such.
The dischord between progressives and the Dem establishment isn't enough to split into two factions like that. Especially when they can anticipate a split on the other side. Keeping it together while the tea party splinters off would be a goldrush.
