you have an 11 year old child and you are just now learning that as a parent you should be monitoring what your kids listen to? Heads up you should monitor their computer and TV use too.
13077954, you'd apparently be surprised.

13077575, I love how “the big hits” of her day were confined to boy bands

Like DMX, Jay and Ja weren’t dominating the air waves and crossing over to pop at the time.

Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Oct-05-16 10:34 AM
If she reads those lyrics and concludes, that Vince Staples and the folks who are into this song don't really respect black lives and black women, would she be wrong?

the whole album is about drug addiction, suicide and other downfalls of teenage gang life. The problem is that the assumption is that its a song that sees these things as a *positive* but the whole tone of the song is dark taken in context; shit in the video is a long take of him unglamorously getting arrested.

I mean we all knew scarface was the villian and his choices would lead to his death, but isn't the morality angle lost on the kid with the scarface poster up in his bed room?

Plenty of people don't get that Kendrick's Swimming Pools is an indictment of abuse of alcohol, many of them probably consider themselves big Kendrick fans

Even in 2016 there are political rallies using the Springstein Gawd's 'Born in the USA' as an "America, fuck yeah!" song.

But there's a difference in casually misinterpreting a song (lord knows we all have messed up lyrics in our heads that change the meaning of a song), and her having a mental breakdown over a rap song when we live in a world where Eminem has gone -diamond- several times over, lol.

13077710, Word...She's judging things without understanding the context.
Posted by Marbles, Wed Oct-05-16 12:38 PM

If she's never listened to hip-hop, she's going to miss a lot of the nuances and how the point of view affects the meaning of the song.

It's pretty ridiculous that we keep having to explain this in 2016.

meanwhile they give absolutely no fucks about the conditions black and brown folks are forced to endure. Doesn't matter what Vince Staples actually had to live through (so that you can live your comfortable ass life), they DO NOT wanna hear about it. The problem isn't that people live in those situations, it's that they talk about it.

VINCE STAPLES RESPONDS TO MOM’S VIRAL CRITICISM OF “NORF NORF”:

“SHE HAS A RIGHT TO HER OPINION”
"THIS MISUNDERSTANDING OF OUR COMMUNITY LEADS TO MISCOMMUNICATION WHICH WE SHOULD CONVERT INTO A PROGRESSIVE DIALOGUE"

PUBLISHED ON OCTOBER 6, 2016 BY KHARI NIXON

On Tuesday, a video of a white mother, stricken with grief over hearing Vince Staples’ “Norf Norf” blaring from her daughter’s favorite radio station, went viral. In said video, as another one of her children played on the floor behind her, this mother broke down emotionally over the lyrics of the song, which she found to be heinous, and went on to read the lyrics without omitting the “n-word” wherever it appeared.

“I’ve gotta collect myself because this is what our youth is being subjected to,” said the woman, who cried on more than one occasion during her now infamous rant. A day later, Staples spoke with The Independent on the topic, and had this to say as a reaction.

“I don’t really have much to say about the video — I don’t think it’s funny at all. It’s not right to attack someone over their stance, their opinions, and their religion. I think that’s very immature.”

However, this morning on Twitter, Staples sarcastically thanked his Independent interviewer, Justin Carissimo, for the “misquote.” He clarified his stance on the issue in a subsequent series of tweets, visible below.

What I was saying was that the woman in that video is clearly confused on the context of the song which causes her to be frightened.

Staples has been open about his vivid storytelling, and the violent images it evokes throughout his career. In a June cover story with The Fader, he described the treacherous lifestyle he was subjected to as a child–just by being born on the “wrong” block–and the psychological effect it had on him as a teen, and then an artist.

From The Fader:

The situation like, ‘The city trying to take the house again. The police is here. So-and-so went to jail. We ain’t got no food. The water’s off. The house is getting shot up,’” Staples says. “Once that was out of my head, it was like, ‘Now what are we going to do with this rapping?

Shit bothers me in a way that I really can't explain. It's almost pure manipulation and fake-naivity with an underlying energy of malice, negativity and superiority.

Basically, this broad did all of this JUST to put rap music (and the people that are associated with it) down.
