metal heads, what's on your radar right now?

i fell off for awhile but i'm back.

check these albums out:

Eight Bells - Landless
After The Burial - Dig Deep
Cobalt - Slow Forever
Cough - Still They Pray

bonus album: i saw this on a "best of 2016 so far" list and they called it metal but it's basically a sick ass 70's psych-rock album and i've been bumping it hoard: Mondo Drag - The Occultation of Light

i'm going to see Black Breath and Ghost in October (same week no less).

holla at me with some recommendations.

13056605, Ghost is fantastic live

I saw them open up for a bunch of metalheads who were like, 'Who?' and they totally won them over...they stay in character constantly.

Cobalt's is a great record, easily one of the best this year. And Ill check out Cough, ive been hearing about em but there's so much music to catch up with, lol

My fav's Inter Arma dropped a new record last month that's one of my favs...the drums sound like they are hunting you down for killing their moms but they manage alot of cool proggy shit in the mix.

I also got into 3Teeth who has a completely unoriginal take on 80's/90's industrial music but somehow they make it work. Take a look at what a Trump presidency will look like 2017!

Also saddened by the impending death of Dillinger Escape Plan. I love their recorded stuff because I love weird proggy shit but it's not for everyone:

But live? HOLY FUCKING SHIT. That shit is universal.

While attending their shows I have seen em breathe fire, stage/balcony/ceiling(!!) dive, throw amps/monitors into the audience, crowd surfed on top of chairs while playing, hopped on bars to smash patron drinks (lol) while solo'ing...all while nailing their extremely complex parts (lots of jazz breakdowns and scales) so its not just a gimmick.

Unfortunately all that jumping around and shit catches up to you so they drop one last album next month and one more touring cycle before settling into less dangerous musical projects...see em if you can.

13056648, I got that new Inter Arma as well. It's cool enough

It's weird, since Sky Burial I've been trying to really dig them cause I like elements of what they do but it's something about the finished product that I'm not 100% on board with.

Also didn't know about DEP. I've also heard their live show is bananas
13056676, The music is not for everyone, but the live show is, lol

Its just some crazy shit that you imagine old school punk shows to be like.

Funny NYC story;

Drinking in Williamsburg with two of my friends(non-metal heads) and we walk by Music Hall of Williamsburg and they are playing and its sold out. We're still bar hopping so I get a drunken epiphany, walk up and say "I work for Fader, we are here for the show" in by best nebish hipster voice and the dude lets us all in no questions asked, lol. They enjoyed the fuck out of it.

I have a drummer friend who feels the same about Inter Arma; I think its because while musically they are are awesome the songwriting can be meandering.
13056821, yeah, I'm excited to see them. I wish I had seen them last time through...

because it was at a small rock venue.

this show is at a theater that holds about 1,500.

still, should be a great time.

gonna check out that Inter Alma. thanks!
13056697, Going to check out Baroness + Pallbearer this Sunday
Posted by T Reynolds, Fri Aug-12-16 12:35 PM
pretty hyped about that

I picked up the Pallbearer 3 song demo release for Sorrow and Extinction on wax last weekend in Kingston, NY and I was just reminded about how much I love that album. One of my favorites of all time metal-wise.

Baroness' Purple I like less than their past, but my girl likes better than their old stuff, so putting her up on it was a good way to excite her about the show.

Not really metal, but just found out about Ancient River, and I really like their shit. Just listen to the first couple off their 2015 album:

another band that's decent: The Devil and the Almighty Blues

Which brings me to a youtube channel I have been checking periodically, Stoned Meadow of Doom, which is nuts.

I honestly don't believe how many active bands in this genre there are internationally. Some ones I was listening to and digging were Red Sun Cult

Navajo Witch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvu0Q5x1gOc
Naxatras

13056817, thanks for the recs. gonna peep. seeing Baroness would be dope.

13056823, Dammit, that's gonna be a great show

I wanted to go but then I realize *Flips through dusty wallet*

Imma check out ancient river, I need more psychedelic/trippy stuff in my life.
13056829, dusty wallet is a real ailment.

my niece is reminding me last night that Megadeth (she loves them) is coming (with Amon Ammarth and Suicidal Tendencies) and i'm pulling tumbleweeds out of my pockets.
