13042196, Drones on US Civilians are next. Y'all know this right?

This was the first time a robot designed for use in the battlefield was employed on a US Citizen on US soil, in a non-military situation. A precedent has been set.

Looking for the hidden agenda? There it is......

If we militarize the police why wouldnt they use military tactics?
13042305, i think the better question is
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Jul-08-16 07:10 PM
why would a someone responsible for the lives of police officers and civilians not use whatever tools are available to him to prevent further harm from coming to said officers and civilians?

i think another good question since we are so hype about the "militarization" of police

what military situation have we ever driven a robot into a structure/room with a bomb attached to it?

lets get back to focus on legitimate problems stemming from this incident instead of the...

hidden agenda to get us used to robots with bombs attached to them...
13042306, RE: i think the better question is
Posted by double 0, Fri Jul-08-16 07:13 PM
According to the god malcolm nance this tactic has been used multiple times against suicide bombers and to explode ieds

Also doubt there is a hidden agenda.. People dont pay attention until something is right in front of their face.. So using robots overseas for this very sale tactic means nothing to them.. But using it in front of em on US soil.. Yes they will pay attention..

And I think we Should discuss the tactics regarding robots since police depts do also have access to drones. The open discussion on when and how these things are used has begun..
13042307, ya i can see blowing up other explosives
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Jul-08-16 07:14 PM
interesting theyve been using it on actual people overseas

im all about cops should be cops and not the military

but im also all about them doing what they have to do to prevent further harm

*Edit*

and to clarify why it seems odd we'd use it on people overseas

there are much cheaper, easier and efficient ways of dealing with someone holed up in a building/room than with an expensive robot when in a war zone
13042309, RE: ya i can see blowing up other explosives
Posted by double 0, Fri Jul-08-16 07:18 PM
Robot is mad cheap.. Less than 10k... Its their purpose they are their for bombs and potential bomb situations..

If someone is in a bldg 200ft away and u can roll a robot with a bomb up to it I think thats easier than calling in a drone strike on said bldg

I also agree cops should be cops... But they need way better training to start..
13042310, right on
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Jul-08-16 07:21 PM
ya i can see the application you right
did a little reading too, interesting

*edit*

after reading i see it too stems from improvisng by soldiers

so back to the OP

no agenda here, people doing what they have to do to get shit done and save lives
13042320, I personally never saw a robot sent in to get a person over there...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jul-08-16 07:53 PM
not to say it's never happened. I've seen TONS of IEDs get probed and/or detonated by robots...Johnny 5 lookin jawns. I've also seen drone strikes and they're pretty precise.
13042323, probably since the soliders have a decent choice
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Jul-08-16 08:11 PM
of tools to get it done, the robot being used that way really only comes into play when they have to really improvise things.

13042315, they've been using robots in civilian situations since 1972+...Ireland

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheelbarrow_(robot)

i mean, granted this is a new use but, robots have been in use for a second

not sure how to feel about it since I really see it as just another technological advancement thats up there with night vision, thermography, smart bombs, guided munitions, better bullet proof vests, information warfare, etc

what DOES fuck me up is the the fact that after all this time there doesnt seem to be an emphasis on creating AND ACTUALLY USING non-lethal solutions (i.e. you wont be dead but you will be incapacitated)

what DOES fuck me up and I believe that this is implied in this post is the fact that we keep throwing military grade level weaponry at the police WITHOUT actually spending the time and money to properly train the people. its like getting a handgun without training; you will end up going to the gun first instead letting the gun be the absolute last option.
13042325, It's imminent at this point
Posted by Sarah_Bellum, Fri Jul-08-16 08:17 PM
A few years on this very board "military experts" where arguing that a situation like this was impossible.

13042328, youll probably see munitions fired from a drone
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Jul-08-16 08:32 PM
in mexico before the us due to several factors

and honestly, i dont see many situations where they are gonna use a drone to shoot a missle at someone (in the US)

it would have to be sparse but hey if the conditions are right and it saves lives so be it.
13042430, These "right conditions" are going to be set and carried out by whom?
Posted by Sarah_Bellum, Sat Jul-09-16 08:37 PM
The same country that manages to kills 500 people on the streets every single year without a trial is magically going to determine who to kill on the streets with unmanned drones or blow up with robots justly, transparently and without bias.
It's like you haven't been paying attention at all.

put something in quotes i didnt even say very nice

so I havent been paying attention? thats what you got from my statement?

congratulations, you misquote me then you have to be condescending.

why the hell do I even reply? And you think I'm gonna spend another minute trying to have a legitimate discussion with you?

have a great day
13042455, My fault, I was silly to waste waste common sense on this board.

13042375, i can admit when i'm wrong

this bothers me as well.

i won't equate what happened in Dallas to targeted strike with a UAV, but i recognize the future implications.
13042367, & the bombing on MOVE in the 1980's will be the template they study.....

13042379, definitely made me pause when they said they killed the dallas shooter with an explosive
Posted by Amritsar, Sat Jul-09-16 11:30 AM
like they couldn't just flash bang the shit out of him then go in?

The way they do it all the time

13042396, pretty much a gaurantee another cop would have been shot
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Sat Jul-09-16 02:35 PM
or injured

and i think they had had enough that day
13042404, Did people NOT think Drones would be used on US Civilians next?

13042409, Ehh... while my sentiments are "Fuck this guy", this is a bad precedent
Posted by mtbatol, Sat Jul-09-16 04:28 PM
Would've rather he was taken to trial, and given they falsely fingered another guy as a suspect, this is scary as fuck.
13042457, yup, cuz all it takes is one "there's a nig with a gun" 911 call
Posted by nonaime, Sun Jul-10-16 02:30 AM
and these mofos come in weapons hot, not even trying to figure out what's what...a la Rice, Crawford, etc, etc.

Now, they're just going to send ED-209 in and not even bother putting their lives at risk (TM)
13042482, On US soil? Because this has been happening overseas
