shit. I would even fear how the US would respond. Not like we could (or would) go to war with Mexico, but we would hella ramp up our military presence there with that govt permission(cause they aint gonna say no)

He was the most powerful man in the country if not the continent, and that was in a time where dictatorships were common in the region.

You are thinking Gaviria, and yes he lived (but the 107 people on board the plane did not ... he killed 100 people by blowing up a goddamn plane!). Gaviria went on to become president serving a term from 90 to 94, he was in office when Escobar was killed.

Basically shit started to intensify and the cartel was fighting extradition at any cost. They killed a senator and minister of justice over this. They wanted to kill Gaviria. For them, extradition was a war they could not lose. If it were implemented, they were all fucked. Mejor una tumba en Colombia que una celda en Estados Unidos was Escobar's statement and I guess he had his options right.

Galan was almost killed in Medellin and after the assassination attempt was thrwarted, the mayor of Medellin and the police commander of police in Antioquia were both killed. They had been with him and it was also done as retaliation for disrupting cartel business on home soil. They killed Rodrigo Lara, who was like the Colombian equivalent of the U.S. attorney general.

The cartel as an organization I guess technically is responsible for Galan's death but Pablo commanded the cartel. It was somewhat of an oligarchy (El Mexicano, the Ochoa brothers, Lehder, et al) but Pablo was el capo de los capos.

Can I at least hope that somehow this exposes his cowardice? I need him to shit his pants at a public appearance because a mariachi band shows up.

I'd also settle for him living the rest of his life in fear.

One of the things that I think is just innervating in life is someone who thinks they are above getting cracked in the jaw. The people who talk and talk and talk, condescend and insult and demean, and think that nothing is going to happen. This would be quite a fierce retribution against one of the most prominent examples of that. We are talking about someone's life here and I can't clap to murder but if he got touched up or frightened a little, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
