12893858, Wait, so the big new iPad feature is a stylus?
Posted by stravinskian, Wed Sep-09-15 12:57 PM

There's a Steve Jobs quote on the subject somewhere.
12893893, Yes there is
Posted by handle, Wed Sep-09-15 02:08 PM
Talking about phones and it being necessary to sue the phone.

Not as an optional part of a device.

But don't let it ruin the phone of the quote.

12893915, That's one hell of a fanboy rationalization.
Posted by stravinskian, Wed Sep-09-15 02:44 PM

A stylus was never needed to use any phone. I used a Treo, I know. For a lot of things, a stylus just works better than fingerpainting.

I'm not complaining, I'm glad they've finally seen the light. Maybe one day they'll give us back the keyboard.
12893977, I used a Hitachi phone years ago, came with a stylus, def needed
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Wed Sep-09-15 04:43 PM
Also had several Palm phones for work, stylus was definitely needed.

They don't want to call for peace then.
12893974, That's interesting because the quote starts "It's like we said on the iPad...
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Wed Sep-09-15 04:38 PM
if you see a stylus, they blew it."

12893991, You took that to mean that ANY STYLUS EVER means they blew it
Posted by handle, Wed Sep-09-15 06:01 PM
I took it as a diss on the Windows Mobile tablets that required you to use a stylus. (And not as optional integral.)

The "Apple Pencil" does not come with any Apple device.

Considering Apple sold third party stylus like: MouthStick Stylus- Touchscreen Interaction for those with Manual Disabilities since it's launch I didn't take it that way.

So if Jobs decreed "Stylus are NEVER ACCEPTABLE FOR ANY USE" then Apple blew it years ago.

If he meant that it should not be the primary device to interact with the device.

12894070, The role of the stylus has changed since then
Posted by hardware, Wed Sep-09-15 11:17 PM
12894106, i'm curious. are you thinking about copping?
Posted by dapitts08, Thu Sep-10-15 08:26 AM
even though i am like...
damnnnnnnnn regarding the pricing
it is still less than the 13 inch cintiq hd touch

i wasn't really in the market for this but i must admit my interest is piqued
12894265, Its why i have a Note 4
Posted by hardware, Thu Sep-10-15 12:48 PM
But at that size, i'd probably go with the Syrface or the new Lenovo Miix so i could have full Windows and thus Photoshop.
12893973, Its basically a 12.9 inch touch MacBook
Posted by Heinz, Wed Sep-09-15 04:36 PM
And the stylus is probably mostly for designers, doctors, architects, artists etc

I noticed they are really pushing to get into hospitals more with those watches and this iPad...having them work together more. Smart

12893901, Sucks at no Ipad refresh
Posted by BigReg, Wed Sep-09-15 02:21 PM
My Ipad 2 is getting long in the tooth, but I loath jumping up and getting the current model knowing that in a year or less it's probably going to be a big leap in that model considering the new iphones have that tougher/tactile display and I believe better processor(not sure on this point)

Ipad Pro; lets see if power users take to it. It could be huge, or it could fizzle out.

Apple TV still finds a way to suck.

The biggest bomb they did was that they are subsidizing unlocked phones. Considering Verizon/AT$T are currently abusing the fuck out of their customers, along with dropping subsidized phones...it's going to be interesting to see what happens now since an Apple subsidy and lets say Boost mobile account gets you a brand new iphone every year for presumably cheaper then what you would get with ATT or Verizon.
12894012, to me at damn near $800, the iPad Pro isn't worth it
Posted by Lach, Wed Sep-09-15 07:48 PM
I'm glad I copped a macbook air during best buy's sale this past weekend. To me it's better at that price point than that iPad pro. This 13 inch joint is just right and light and portable as hell.
12893905, Will be getting apple tv
Posted by tomjohn29, Wed Sep-09-15 02:25 PM
everything else im good on
12893907, dunno how much y'all use ur tablets, but i gave mine away.
Posted by 2.tears.in.a.bucket, Wed Sep-09-15 02:27 PM

no way im paying that much for a tech that is past its prime, imo
12893924, everyday, i've had 5 of them
Posted by southphillyman, Wed Sep-09-15 02:56 PM
reading online articles
reading books
watching youtube
reference tool on the couch while watching tv/sports
offline study aid away from wifi (pdfs on iannotate)

i get them for free though. i hope i get this refresh cause it looks bigger and the 2 app thing might be useful
i had a fire and currently have a nexus 7 but it collects dust. i like the size/form factor of the ipad(s)

>reading online articles

to call them handy is an understatement. i REALLY hate touchscreen keyboards on tablets, tho.

& most often i find that anything i'd use a tablet for, i'd much rather grab my phone for.

>i get them for free though. i hope i get this refresh cause it

i DO like the ipad for reading but i just find iOS restrictive. if they EVER drop another nexus tablet, i'm all over that shit
12893913, i own apple products but never got the hype of these events

12893961, ive been waiting for that new Apple TV
Posted by Kahlema, Wed Sep-09-15 03:56 PM
i like that Siri integration and touch/swipe-able remote, and finally a way to link to the app store.

12893989, RE: ive been waiting for that new Apple TV
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Sep-09-15 05:56 PM
Too tired to skim. Do you have to replace the box, or just cop the remote?
12894045, Apple wants all your money, so
Posted by Kahlema, Wed Sep-09-15 09:48 PM
I think you'll have to buy the new next generation Apple TV.

If it's more than $200 though I'll wait for a price drop.
12893990, Is it a bigger remote?
Posted by Starbaby Jones, Wed Sep-09-15 06:01 PM
I love my Apple TV, but I stay losing that damn remote.
12894048, RE: Is it a bigger remote?
Posted by Kahlema, Wed Sep-09-15 09:50 PM
It looks a little bigger. So you have space to swipe. Yes the current one is sleek and pretty but too easy to lose. Good to have the Apple Rmote app on your iPhone in case it happens.
12894053, My Mac Measly is so close to my ATV, I don't have a choice.
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Sep-09-15 10:06 PM
If I try to use the silver remote while the computer is on, Kodi opens, and iTunes starts.
12893972, I think Jobs would have disapproved of 5 different similarly named iphones.

12894043, So basically Apple dropped a Surface Pro
Posted by DJPoke, Wed Sep-09-15 09:40 PM
12894101, no. Apple dropped a Surface RT. The Surface Pro runs full Windows.
Posted by FLUIDJ, Thu Sep-10-15 07:59 AM
but nobody's talking about that fact though....
funny.

"Get ready..for your blessing..."
12894110, you can like Windows. I like Windows.
Posted by Rjcc, Thu Sep-10-15 08:46 AM
the surface RT is useless and never had any apps and isn't getting Windows 10.

chill.

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
12894117, nah, I mean from a "fragmentation" standpoint. It runs iOS, not OSX
Posted by FLUIDJ, Thu Sep-10-15 09:02 AM
so to compare it to Surface Pro isn't an accurate comparison.
You're still stuck with essentially robust phone apps, not full apps.
Although iOS's app catalog is likely suitable for most people.

"Get ready..for your blessing..."
12894224, there's no comparison btw iOS and RT tho
Posted by Rjcc, Thu Sep-10-15 11:37 AM
because one actually has an ecosystem and a future.

the desktop/mobile thing is blah. nobody thinks the iPad is actually a PC, and it doesn't matter that much

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
12894228, I think more people need to understand that the Surface is a PC..
Posted by FLUIDJ, Thu Sep-10-15 11:42 AM
a full fledged PC that can indeed be and IS what the iPad PRO is aspiring to be. I can run full Autodesk Revit on a Surface Pro. The future of compact computing has been here for 3 years now with the Surface Pro....but MS has done a shitty job showcasing that and getting that point across to people.

MS needs to do a better job conveying exactly what the Surface Pro is. Typical MS fumbling the play is what it is. Good to see the companies collaborating again....but MS really keeps pissing me off by sealing the fate of every good tech product they bring to market. Zune comes to mind of course....

"Get ready..for your blessing..."
