So my friend knew that, in order to be there, the guy had to have proved he was 21.
Turned out he was 17.
My friend was prosecuted, convicted, and disowned by his family. His father in particular didn't know that he was gay until this arrest.
His father refused him any money and his mother was on a tight leash so she couldn't give him cash, so she would sneak out and buy him goods. Like Gucci shoes. He died of AIDS in '89 in a rent-controlled single in Santa Monica surrounded by a pile of Gucci shoes. He was so ashamed of his living space that very few of us were allowed to visit.
Anyway, how's that for strict liability? The kid didn't just lie, he did everything possible to convince people of his lie, and his family was wholeheartedly in favor of the prosecution.
