'Rowdy' Roddy Piper Dies at 61 From Cardiac Arrest 21 minutes ago BY TMZ STAFF EXCLUSIVE 0731_roddy_piper_gettyWrestling legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61... TMZ Sports has learned. Piper -- born Roderick George Toombs -- died from cardiac arrest at a home in Hollywood at around noon Friday. Piper was a wrestling icon -- one of the biggest stars in the WWE back in the '80s, and even wrestled in "Wrestlemania I" back in 1985 ... squaring off against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. Roddy's rep tells us, "I am devastated at this news." "Rod was a good friend as well as a client and one of the most generous, sincere and authentic people I have ever known. This is a true loss to us all." Piper had been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006, but last November he said he was cancer free. Roddy was admitted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2005 and was one of the top 50 villains in the history of the WWE . Piper had a long relationship with WWE -- last wrestling back in 2008 ... but appeared on various WWE shows up until 2014. Roddy is survived by his wife Kitty and their 4 kids -- including 3 daughters and son Colton who's pursuing a career in professional wrestling.

12868975, Loved that movie Posted by nipsey, Fri Jul-31-15 07:03 PM
It had one of the longest (best) fist fight scenes in movie history between him and Keith David. No doubt it was an inspiration for the Peter Griffin "Family Guy" chicken fight bit.

12868950, i was abt to ask what causes natural death at 61? Posted by kinetic94761180, Fri Jul-31-15 05:58 PM
what exactly are natural causes, and how young does one have to be to qualify? is it always age-associated? coroner's discretion?
could a young adult die naturally? a kid? a baby?
don't think i've ever fully understood this.

12869245, He did have cancer a few years back Posted by simpsycho, Sat Aug-01-15 03:42 PM
Word is that he was cancer free at the time of his death but the treatments for that stuff can mess you up pretty bad.
That being said, I'm sure being a pro wrestler in the 80's certainly didn't help his cardiovascular health at all.

The Hulkster, Piper, and Macho Man Savage were like the wrestling holy trinity when we were kids.
Now I've got to catch up with They Live this weekend. Loved that flick.

He could play the heel, he could get you on his side, he was a great interviewer and he was perhaps the only respectable ambassador pro wrestling had.

12869251, One of the greatest never to become world champion. Posted by TheAlbionist, Sat Aug-01-15 04:38 PM
Whenever I think of Wrestlemania VI I think of that "JESSE FOR PRESIDENT, PIPER FOR PM" sign someone was holding up. Jesse got closer, I guess...
An amazing talker and a great worker... I'm glad he stuck around with the Piper's Pit stuff; one of the few people I could watch on the mic all night.
RIP Piper.
