I still trying to figure out how he knew Drake was talking about him since Drake mentioned no name.

Anyway the beat is fire but I don't know if this is going to cut it. If this was what took him a week to put together... he might lose this shit. He needs to go out on his sword. I need guntalk punchlines and threats. Not this bossip shit

12868147, It wasn't terrible.....
Posted by SimplyHannah, Thu Jul-30-15 10:07 PM
But it wasn't great either.... and since he started the whole thing I was expecting a lot more than that.
12868148, You're kidding, right?

12868157, Here's what's interesting though....
Posted by sersey, Thu Jul-30-15 10:31 PM
You can tell both these guys will be releasing more tracks in the coming weeks to heat things up.

Drake was clearly testing waters with his tracks to get a temperature on Meeks response.

And Meeks response ended pretty abruptly after a beat switch that is likelythe beginning of his 2nd round....

I can also tell from the spirit of the rhymes that both guys are sparring... They battling for supremacy... It ain't some deep rooted hatred that will spill into the streets.

Things are about to get interesting....
12868168, exactly, they are playing chess.
Posted by tzt2004, Thu Jul-30-15 10:51 PM
this will be long and drawn out.
12868171, Drake playing chess. Meek playing backgammon or some shit

12868178, Nah you can't come back a week after initiating the beef with this shit.
Posted by DJPoke, Thu Jul-30-15 11:26 PM
Drake doesn't really even have to reply anymore. If he has another track better than this he needs to drop it right now. This wasn't a chess move at all. This was a dud.
12868326, I'm not sure i would've dropped all 3 at once
Posted by illEskoBar221, Fri Jul-31-15 08:57 AM
Why play all of your cards at once?
It would've been cool if meek played a snippet
Of each reference in his upcoming diss records
But now that we've heard these it won't pack a punch

I liked when he dropped the "know yourself" snippet in his track
It threw me off like ohhh shit they weren't bluffing what else do they have?
Well never mind flex dropped the remaining ones...

But whose to say these are the only ones

Meek did ok tho
12868158, Swing and a miss. Did he even try?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jul-30-15 10:34 PM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdyyNJcNavw&feature=youtu.be&t=1m57s

I guess Hov's status is impacted since y'all counting hooks and a isolated bars as a way to deny credibility.

There are more than five credited people on each song on TPAB so I guess that means Kendrick isn't the artist y'all say he is.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Pimp_a_Butterfly#Track_listing

Now that's out the way let's talk about this shit:

YALL NIGGAS GASSED OVER FOUR BARS AND HOOKS?! ALL OF Y'ALL CAN FUCK OFF DISCREDITING DRAKE OVER THIS SHIT.

Used to is a track off a Wayne mixtape so that doesn't count.

Meek made it seem like Quentin wrote all of RICO which is clearly not the case because there are three bars between the reference and final version.

IF Quentin spit "theres not much to say fam, they told me to tell yu yu manz are some wastemans" THEN Drake has a credibility problem because that's Toronto slang according to my friends.

The only legit argument one can make is Drake wrote the raps and had Quentin spit them in the booth so they could get a feel for the track.... FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF 30 MINUTES. For all we know, Drake laid down a rough verse, brought Quentin in to give his take on the verse, and Drake completed the song.

Flex has to come with more proof than this. Any radio station jihading against the popular artist of the moment out of some fake allegiance to hip-hop is bullshit ESPECIALLY hot 97.
12868952, so now QM is drakes ghost-flowrider/beatcatcher?? LOL

The producer of the beat ALWAYS has input into how the song is put together. Its like you have no clue how hip hop works...smh

and why the fuck do you keep adding ultimatums like "the only way its suspect is if it was a half moon, Drake had on a fitted and QM spent the night at his crib"

Why would Drake write a rhyme and ask dude to spit it first so he could get an idea of how to ride the beat?

More L's for ou my nigga

It's the truth that's why. This was a throwaway mixtape so this doesn't count as far as hurting Drake's legacy or status. There are five plus writers on each song on TPAB and no one questions Kendrick so this is a witch hunt.

>
>Why would Drake write a rhyme and ask dude to spit it first so

Drake is a charitable guy that's why. Drake on some fairy godfather shit taking dudes out of minimum wage jobs and giving them a chance to live their dreams.

I keep winning so fuck all that shit you talking about.

lets be honest. this is a fixed fight. it was over the minute casual hip hop listeners and drake fans made it clear that they aint bothered by the fact drake doesnt pen all of his own material and recruits outside help.

in any other real rap battle, that would be the trump card. the finisher.

but meek underestimated how low standards are for todays audience and how heavy the machine is behind drake. "fans" and media dont care about creation, craft, and culture...they just care about commodity...how socially/commercially relevant the end product is. and the majority of them just align themselves with whatever is "in" or "hot".

drake has nonrelated brands coming out the woodwork and jumping into the fray just to increase their social profile.

that is part of it, no doubt

alot of correlation to Drake using reference tracks and hip hop going pop

but one thing I will say, and I don't think anybody would argue

even if he is just using Quentin's graft

it does sound better, IMO.

the jawns could be word for word identical

and Drake's version would just sound better.

and I might even be alright with all of that in the end

if they ain't lie about it

you ain't gotta lie Aubrey

he coulda just been like, yeah, so!

but he's still trying to convince everybody he's a real G or something

and that's what will never sit right with me IRT Aubrey.

own your truth
12868246, Define "real g" though.....

Not even gonna sit here and pretend like meek understood or even thought about the logistics behind what he did.

12868333, I agree but for opposite reasons. Drake lost those purists awhile ago
Posted by BigReg, Fri Jul-31-15 09:02 AM
so why not focus on the mainstream?

He was never seen as a real rapper because his narrative as an artist "half-jewish lightskinned Canadian actor" on top of his singing/emotional bars. Thus on the flip, if Drake really brought it Takeover/Ether style and it was found out that he didn't use ghostwriters, it STILL would have been received with a relative yawn for people who want to hate Drake because they hate Drake. So he might as well put out a bass heavy track that could get thrown in the middle of a set with solid passive aggressive swipes that, like its been pointed out in the other post, are aimed directly at his audience.

Meek figured that by proving he had a ghost rapper he could just sail his way through to a win. Its why he had said ghost rapper on the track in a hopeful ether moment (and I assume to get him is why it took days for this track to come out). He got lazy with them bars: his doesn't compare to his Dreamcatcher series or anything else he released before this last album.
12868414, all Meek had to do was put out dirt that we don't already got on

That was Drake vs Ye's shooters... and 2 amazing MC's

Even though Stay Schemin' was fiya... King Push got em

Then Ye n Drizzy squashed it and all is well..

Both meek & drake have too many allies in this (Ross, Nicki) to REALLY go in I think...

from what I remember, Run-DMC's track was real dope and some of the others were alright but the quality fell off pretty hard. but I was also in 6th grade or something, maybe there are things going on with it now that I couldn't appreciate then. But some of the matches were just weird like Snoop on Steve Austin's music, and some of the beats were only tangentially related to the theme music. It kind of had a cheap No Limit style sound, too.

edit: here's the time stamp specifically for the Gangrel cut: https://youtu.be/3uFf2PRQyAc?t=1099

4. "Hell Yeah" (by Snoop Dogg and WC) Stone Cold Steve Austin
5. "No Chance" (by Redman and Rock of Heltah Skeltah feat. Peanut Butter Wolf) Vince McMahon
6. "I Won't Stop" (by C-Murder feat. Magic) Gangrel
7. "Big Red Machine" (by Tha Eastsidaz) Kane
8. "Break the Walls Down" (by R.A. the Rugged Man) Chris Jericho
9. "You Ain't Hard" (by Bad Ass and Techniec) New Age Outlaws

12868643, why lie about it?
Posted by bentagain, Fri Jul-31-15 12:19 PM
I think it is interesting IRT authenticity

yes, others have used writers in the past

however

IRT Aubrey

authenticity was the knock on him from the door

no one questioned if the Queen was hip hop

you follow?

also

we now have 4 reference tracks from Quentin alone

= starting to get close to an album's worth

we already got an ep of songs he didn't write himself

it just brings up more questions

how much did he write, if any

yes, we're old

but Aubrey is getting close to PM Dawn ghostwriting for Milli Vanilli levels of fraud

IMO.

I also want to reiterate what started this BS

Aubrey got called to the carpet for spitting Quentin's verse on RICO

now, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that Meek's issue is that he was operating on the basis that he was collaborating with Aubrey

Aubrey comes in with the RICO parts

and Meek isn't aware that it's all Quentin

= Quentin is not listed as a writer on RICO as he is on 10 bands, etc...

that's plagarism, yes?

if it's not a big deal, why lie about it?
12868676, RE: why lie about it?

Drake has had credited co-writers since So Far Gone

12868695, cool, but he's not listed on RICO, and they've made attempts to
Posted by bentagain, Fri Jul-31-15 12:58 PM
deny the allegation

as you said, it wasn't a problem giving the proper credit previously

why wasn't it given on RICO

and why try to deny it

from Meek's/MMG's perspective, doesn't that open them to poetential legal problems
12868709, RE: cool, but he's not listed on RICO, and they've made attempts to
Posted by double 0, Fri Jul-31-15 01:07 PM
Well...

It's on MMG to deal with those credits not OVO. They could've gone to print assuming it was just Drake but never checked..

There are no legal problems really either. listing a credit in a CD sleeve has nothing to do with royalties or publishing.

As long as publishing is cool it doesn't matter.

Could also be the argument that 2 lines didn't warrant enough for a listed credit.

There are a lot of people that do drums for beats that don't get co-production credit either. They are just listed as "Drum programming"

But there is no version of that for writing

We don't need to bring them anywhere near this... Pac isn't seen as a GOAT lyricist by most purists anyway.

But.. they both had crews to bounce ideas off of.

Drake and Ye are more similar than people will ever see. They are the maestro's of their respective camps. 40/Drake might as well be a production team in the way songs and ideas are created and executed. so imo they are more comparable.

for the sake of hip hop's integrity we need uphold the legacy of seminal and massively popular artists like NWA, will smith, kanye west, dr. dre, foxy brown, lil kim, mase, puff daddy, etc. if anyone collaborates with or writes for another rapper hip hop is completely doomed
12868915, out of all those acts you mentioned only 2 got a pass
Posted by j., Fri Jul-31-15 05:04 PM
NWA and Dre...everyone else was clowned. Will Smith in his Fresh Prince days wrote his shit. So he gets half a pass.

Foxy and Kim had club bangers and the whole world knew Jay and Big were writing their shit. They're partly responsible for this mess we got today but let's not front like we weren't kickin game to some club mamis when Ain't no nigga and Get Money were bumpin
12869018, Let's be all the way real...they were given a pass cause they're women
Posted by gumz, Fri Jul-31-15 09:13 PM
Part of the mysoginy of hiphop...we expected less of them as MCs. Dre and Diddy get the producer pass. Will Smith got the "he's an actor" pass...nobody respected him as a hiphop artist anymore by that time...

NWA maybe just got the pass cause of how much time had passed by the time folks found out. I still don't really understand that one. People found out they weren't about that life (except Eazy) and didn't write shit (except Cube and Ren) and still got a pass. For that to happen when it happened makes no damn sense except that good music always wins. If your shit is dope enough people will forgive anything. Same reason Rawse got his pass.
12869070, this is all that should matter

>For that to happen when it happened makes no
>damn sense except that good music always wins. If your shit is
>dope enough people will forgive anything

hip hop is so amazing right now. major label albums are being compared to the classic literary works of authors of african ancestry (TPAB). veterans 20 years deep in the game are able to break into the mainstream without changing their sound and principles (RTJ). regionalism is as good as dead, with everyone taking inspiration from everywhere and the resulting melange of sounds is psychedelic, progressive, and still knocks. vocalizing is wildly experimental, with artists pushing the boundaries of prosody and rhythm over beats that have so much space that the artists are free to rap as much or as little as they want (new ATL). rappers are writing in earnest about formerly taboo subjects such as mental health and non-heterosexuality and finding audiences that identify with them

and yet, somehow, there are people in here and in the "back to back" post really worried about a pop rapper collaborating with writers when stuff like that has been going on in rap since the 80s. they're concerned with the beats not sounding as "hard" as they did 20 years ago while managing to ignore the fact that things always change irrespective of anyone's wishes. i just don't get it

12868905, when did Meek fall off?
Posted by dafriquan, Fri Jul-31-15 04:48 PM
I used to be a big from the first two dreamchaser mixtapes.

oh yes i remember now. his MMG debut was kinda wack outside of the opening track and the one about his pops.

why is he doing this to himself right now?
it's gonna do more harm to his career by drawing attention to his mediocrity.

12868920, i wanna know why Meek sent his sister after Drake:

Posted by PROMO, Fri Jul-31-15 09:15 PM
if Drake sang over the track but his lyrics were all disses.

it might be a permanent rap for Meek at that point.

Reading the breakdown of the lyrics it seems Meeks diss was better on paper.

Undertaker on twitter claiming he's going to sue Meek for using his entrance music in the diss record.

DJ Drama sold the reference tracks to Meek's camp because IYRTITL was supposed to be a Gangsta Grillz mixtape.
http://www.24urban.com/news/did-dj-drama-sell-drakes-reference-tracks-to-meek-mill

Nicki dumped Meek?! Nah, I refuse to believe it because that gives Drake more ammo.

That pissing line in the Drake diss is fabricated:
http://www.missinfo.tv/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/mto.jpg

@schweinbeck a manager from Atlanta that knows Quentin Miller is saying on Twitter that Meek asked Miller to help him write and QM said no and Meek got pissed.
https://twitter.com/schweinbeck/status/627202241993289728

Even more corporations clowning Meek:

https://bossip.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/ne-career.jpg

Allegedly Louie V Gutta ghostwrote for Meek.

Finally, there's a third Meek diss.
12869226, the saga continues huh

Drama would be pretty stupid for doing that...how big could the chech have been? Def not big enough to fuck up that connect
12869237, Drake did Drama like Drama did Envy so Drama was hurt...

Drama agreed to do a mixtape for the Breakfast club and backed out without telling Envy.

http://thejasminebrand.com/2014/04/11/awkward-much-dj-envy-confronts-dj-drama-breakfast-club-interview/

At least Drake told Drama but Drama screwed Drake over. Meek had to give Drama a few million at least to do this.
12869246, meek mill ain't got no few million to just throw around

Sources close to the situation say Meek Mill paid DJ Drama millions for the reference tracks.
