Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is telling film director Spike Lee he doesn`t like the title of a movie he`s planning to film in Chicago. Lee wants to call the film "Chiraq" focusing on the violence in Chicago`s Englewood neighborhood.

Spike named a film about HIS hometown "Crooklyn", so I'll allow it.

I respect the decision of any Chicagoan to distance his or her city from the "Chiraq" tag. because that IS some bullshit.

however, Rahm... and his post-King Daley, neoliberal "tear it down, kill them all" rule probably ain't doing nothing to erase what created "Chiraq" in the first place. he don't want the dirt on Chicago, but his reasons for doing so seem very specious

I'm in englewood everyday, one kid graduated last year but one is still in school there.

It's nowhere near as bad in some spots as the mid90's...but other spots are as bad or worse....I think it's good that spike sheds light on this

I like Spike. He comes correct for the most part. But I'm glad that the trend of gang movies played out. Colors, Boys in the hood, it's Black people killing Black people for non-Black people's entertainment.

The media focus on violence in Chicago isn't genuine because the city was averaging 900+ murders in the '80s and '90s. Where was the media focus then?

The focus has more to do with an attempt to denigrate all things Obama. Coming from red state White people who couldn't care less about Blacks in the inner cities of America. And once he's out of office, the media focus on Chicago crime and violence will go with him, mark my words.

I hope he tells the *whole* story. Go back to the very beginning and show the White racist Irish gangs like the Hamburg Athletic Club, the Diablos, Ragan's Colts, that made Black people start forming gangs in the first place.

Chicago seems to be the focal point of news attention of black-on-black crime because of the Obama angle. Possibly because despite Obama being able to grow his career from Chicago, the limitations of the presidency don't or won't allow him to change the situations of the men involved in the crimes and the families affected by the murder.
