And I'm starting to weaken.

Help.

A lot of New Yorkers?

Can't stand LA

But YOU

YOUUUUU

WILL HATE LA

I give you two months before you are locked up for a road rage incident in which a victim is stabbed with a pen you keep in the glove compartment on the 10 freeway

You may last a year if you have a personal chauffer

But one trip to "California Pizza Kitchen" will ruin the dream

12739883, ...I read this in Nuyorican Poetry Slam cadence.

My old man gets back from ten days in LA, staying in Pico-Robertson and Westwood.

And the first thing he says to me, bewildered, is "WHERE THE HELL ARE THE MEXICANS? I'M AT RESTAURANTS, EATING, AND ALL THE WAITERS AND KITCHEN STAFF ARE WHITE HOW DO THEY EXPECT ME TO EAT MY FOOD LIKE THAT? I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THEIR HANDS HAVE BEEN OR IF THEY KNOW HOW TO COOK THE FOOD."

He's taking a Spanish intensive so he can travel to the East Side for a decent meal.

...yeah.

I got nothin'.

Write. Graphics (print and video). VFX. Edit.

I actually get paid pretty well to do it. Am in a union. It supports my family.

I don 't know wtf I need anymore. LOL. I'm an asshole New Yorker to the bone gristle, but lately, I feel like I could use an extended change of pace. Raise my kid close to the Pacific. Send him to a good school. Makes sure he claims a set of Piru with progressive principles and good job placement.

I haven't been to LA in stupid long...

lol..

If you can move and keep that good job then cool.. Otherwise the reset might not be worth it unless you really love LA..

LA is whatever the hell you want to make it. I think that is its gift and curse.. You can curate your life how you see fit.. but if you need ideas to be provided for you it may not be ideal..

12739894, how? if it's related to his health, understood.

Where does pops live? He's a NYer who moved east.

And hates Miami

And has a friend who's been trying to get him out there for YEARS.
12739963, live near your work and you'll be good.
Posted by Kahlema, Mon Mar-02-15 04:33 PM
since traffic DOES suck ass. that or live near metro so you can take it into work. i really think the weather makes up for a lot of things. you'll appreciate the 75 degree winters while nyc and the entire eastern seaboard is in the teens and twenties.
12740327, This sound about right

Or if you can work from home

It's the only thing that screwed the pooch for my cousin
Had to get a bigger apt for his daughter
Rented that duplex
Schools are way better
But yeah he doesn't like the commute

He was in heaven in Santa Monica biking to work

Also Mongo if you are thinking just lifestyle change in general
So many damn healthy outdoor activities
That part seems awesome too

Another friend with two boys are constantly snowboarding and skating boarding with them
Outdoor activities seems to be a way of life there

J/K but not really. I really do feel like too many people move to L.A. and complain about EEEEEEEVVERY every every every single little thing. And 80% of the complaints can be translated into "It's not New York!" And not because NY is actually better in each and every way, but trivial dumb shit!

For example....why do people from the East Coast visit and complain about clubs ending at 2AM....yet they still complain about the fact that there is a three hour time change? That means it feels like 5AM when the club ends! They get tired at Midnight anyway!

Or they really complain about the weather, on some "I hate being in L.A. during the Holidays because it doesn't feel like Christmas if I can wear shorts outside and go to the beach. It's no snow or anything!"

But yeah...if you actually want to be here, or are open to enjoying it, you easily can and will. Otherwise....make that one way ticket a two way ticket.
12740186, NYers complain wherever they go
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Mar-02-15 08:38 PM
Every sentence starts with "back in NY.."

12740124, don't. for the sake of both of our cities.

Posted by seandammit, Mon Mar-02-15 08:22 PM
But I was coming from Florida, not NYC. As a lot of people have said in this post, it is what you make it. I knew coming in that there were some things that weren't super ideal but there are more things that I do appreciate that make it all worth it.
12740205, YOU AIN'T NEVER GONNA OWN SHIT!

oh wait, you are in nyc...
12740242, June 4th will make 3 years here.

the only thing I hate is the unreliable public transportation. A 30 minute drive can be a 10 minute train ride in NY and it's 2 hours out here

Im annoyed by the young people culture (and how black I feel in Beverly Hills), but it's a fancy city with a lot to do

Think NYC with prettier natives, warm weather and less PTSD
12740281, youre going to gain like 20 lbs from driving every where instead of walking

just a smorgasbord of multi cultural gang activity.

But it's not 80's-90's levels, it's slowed down a lot except for the deep hood of course.

I stayed in Little Armenia off the red line and would trip out on Armenian Power looking like MS-13.

Try to stay near a metro stop, otherwise traffic will turn you into Michael Douglas in Falling Down
