I would say that 90% of the time, if you can become successful in your field in NY, you can do the same anywhere else...especially the competitive fields. But it's surely about your connections...and it's like, NY has a much higher level that can be attained.

Only thing that I would say goes against this statement is that the overall NY attitude may not work in other cities, especially smaller cities, where being more aggressive or even blunt/rude may not help out as much. And that would surely depend on your occupation.
