I work with a number of retired top brass from the NYPD. Each of them went to grad schools, including law school and public policy programs at Columbia and Harvard, paid for by the NYPD. Also, the time they took away to attend school full time counted towards their 20 years, and they were still paid their normal salary--and rose through the ranks.
In retirement, they've each moved on to even more lucrative careers, in addition to that great pension, that's considering after 5 years in the NYPD base salary is somthing like $90K.

I think you'll find the majority of Police don't take advantage of those opportunities available, but the smart ones do--including the female police.

My eye is on the prize right now, and right now that is moving out and getting me pair of red bottoms.

Where I fucked up was not doing internships and networking in undergrad because thats how most people get their jobs.

But for me it was worth it, I grew tremendously as a person and I wouldn't that for the world. I'm trying to think of what I could be doing if I hadn't gone to college and honestly im drawing a blank, because im not skilled in trade nor did I have ebough resources to start a business.

At that pace, you could do 1.5 miles in 12 mins 45secs. Actually you'd be a little faster since it's a shorter distance.

I went for bio because I had high aptitude for science and was like ehhh I might be able
to get a good job with it.

Because Ive applied for things in my field even if you have the credentials, it's just hard to get anywhere unless you know someone that knows someone. I've put out hella applications but have hardly gotten any bites.

It was one of my first summers in NYC and I was walking to my dudes house on the Eastern Parkway for the West Indian Labor Day Parade. I was carrying a gang of liquor with me in a box and a white cop stopped me. He said I couldn't have open liquor out for the Parade. I said I didn't have open liquor, they were bottles with the lid on them and I was transporting them to my friends house were we were going to drink the liquor there. I had like a year of law school under my belt so I was fiesty and really getting into it with the white cop when this sister cop intervened. She said to the white cop, "look I will walk him to his friends house to make sure there he isn't out here drinking on the street".

She walked me to my friends house and we shot the shit for a bit. She was very friendly.

Fast forward some time later I was out at the club and this very cute high yella girl with freckles runs up on me and is like "oohh, I remember you from the West Indian Parade!" It was my lady cop. Turns out she quit the force to go to law school. For whatever reason I didn't get her number or anything like that and have never seen her again.

It took me some time to realized she kept my butt from getting arrested that day. I've always wanted to find her and thank her.

What kind of a lift are they asking you to do? Mainly asking out of curiosity.

better starting pay and career opportunities vs. southern police force
and you could probably leverage your degree somehow in your 2nd rotation

I don't think the FBI and CIA are looking to hire people who just apply on a whim.
I wouldn't think most people just out of college have a resume tailored for the FBI/CIA. But you need something that shows genuine interest in that career path.

Sometimes if you're extremely close to the standards they look for they'll push you through as long as you improve afterwards.

Which is funny because some of the test I've done they've broken down into percentages.

Meaning if you do 100% of your body weight you'd score a 100%
If you do 85% of your body weight then you'd get an 85% in that category.

Only other lift is a dummy drag, but that normally has a set weight limit of 180lbs and you just have to drag it.
