12686117, Tacos al pastor appreciation post
Posted by blkprinceMD05, Mon Dec-29-14 01:14 PM
The reason why I try to post about innocuous stuff is becuz discussing real stuff with some of the ppl here is just a chore or annoying or repulsive

Anywho. I don't need a late pass cause I been on these bad boys but i just ate one for lunch and it was sooooooo good.

Whats ur favorite place to get them in ur area?

Mine is pollo norteƱa on Buford highway and chamblee tucker rd. they are so good! They have really good chicken too (duh)
12686148, Only pork shit that I like. Too bad it's way worse for you than other options
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon Dec-29-14 01:28 PM
At King Taco (greasy lil chain joint) they post the nutrition info and the Al Pastor is the highest in everything (calories, fat, salt) of their dozen or so different meat options.

I still get it. Every time. I don't fuck with King Taco like that though. There are a couple lil spots around me where they are good. I fuck with Juanita's for a quick stop-in joint.

There is just something so juicy and flavorful that you don't get with carnitas.
12686162, dang! Well I don't care lol

12686151, My favorite spot: Rosita's Al Pastor (taco truck)
Posted by Cornbread, Mon Dec-29-14 01:30 PM
Austin, TX. Two (three if I am greedy) Al Pastor tacos and a Manzana Lift, I'm good to go.

that's an awesome preface.
12686167, lmao, right. that out of the way what's the difference between these
Posted by southphillyman, Mon Dec-29-14 01:39 PM
and normal authentic tacos?
the pork?
i didn't know this was a distinct thing basically
12686170, There is carnitas and there is al pastor. At this point I think the less i
Posted by blkprinceMD05, Mon Dec-29-14 01:42 PM
Know the better
12686172, al pastor is just one meat choice. it's pork marinated in fruit juices
Posted by John Forte, Mon Dec-29-14 01:43 PM
12686176, fruit juices? oh ard. i must get barbacoa or something then
Posted by southphillyman, Mon Dec-29-14 01:45 PM
12686178, I think it has orange and pineapple
Posted by John Forte, Mon Dec-29-14 01:48 PM
12686607, usually just pineapple and chiles, i think. also it's on a spit
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon Dec-29-14 06:31 PM
i dont think carnitas is on a spit (like gyro meat), not that i can remember.

you'd think carnitas would be fattier because they often just soak that shit in lard until it's tender, but somehow al pastor comes out richer.
12686174, pretty much if you don't agree with gayness, im not talkin to you

Specifically, if you hit Phoenix one day, stop off at a Pro's Ranch Market (there's two just off the I10 on the way to LA). The al pastor there is simply the best I've ever had. Tacos and -especially- the quesadillas al pastor with an ice cold cervesa will make you buss one in your drawls.
12686822, Lol

12686225, The history behind Al Pastor is very interesting
Posted by T Reynolds, Mon Dec-29-14 02:11 PM
Ever find it interesting that they cut the al pastor off a rotating hunk of meat on a spit that looks exactly like they do at gyro spots?

that's because it's a style of cooking that the Lebanese in Mexico brought with them from their home country

the reason why it's called 'al pastor' is because Lebanese in Mexico had difficulty finding work in any line other than shepherding, hence the name 'al pastor'

San Francisco doesn't really do tacos that well. The best locally are probably from the taco trucks on International Blvd in Oakland.
12686250, yep!

12687411, I've been doing the rice in burritos lately...
Posted by stankpalmer, Tue Dec-30-14 06:04 PM
and I'm becoming a fan.

Ever since switching over to refried beans (as opposed to pinto or black), I've been over Super burritos. Tortilla, rice, beans, meat and salsa...I'm good to go.

Yes - trucks up and down east 14th street in general.

Fish tacos - Sinaloa at 23rd and east 14th is the bizness.

i don't have too much of a preference between trucks in that area for Pastor - it's all good: Sinaloa, Guadalajara, the one on 29th ave and e14th, at 1st ave and e14th. so many options...
12686235, also on my snob shit this is the best I've ever had

12686633, Carnitas at Reyes deli in south slope on 4th ave
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Mon Dec-29-14 07:01 PM
Rivals any Carnitas ive ever had.

The rest of their tacos suck, but the Carnitas is bomb.
12686833, That's what's up. I think you mentioned them on here before
Posted by T Reynolds, Tue Dec-30-14 08:27 AM
I got some spots closer to me that I recommend to you as well, mostly Taqueria Cocoyoc and Tres Espigas, but there are others I can't remember the name of offhand too

12686638, there wasa spot in Phoenix that made a mixed meat quesedilla
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Mon Dec-29-14 07:09 PM
IIRC 67th ave and Thomas rd. It was bought by Federico's and they changed the menu.

Quesedilla was about the size of a medium pizza folded in half and had mountains of cheese, grilled onions, carne asada, al pastor, and shrimp rancheros (hot ass shrimp).

Shit was good beyond definition.

Buford Hwy's always had such a bad rap, I'd never tried anything on the whole strip, until earlier this summer. There's a bubble tea place near that former Taco Bell place that you mentioned that was pretty dope.
12686832, Buford highways always had a bad rap?

Niggas cuttin' up cabbage on top of the garbage to serve to people, lol. Maybe it's on a turn-around, but there was a spot from BH on the news, often.

I found this place on Delk Rd., via Groupon, and they're proud as fuck of their lli' 100 score. They're like, yeen bout to put us on the SummerJam screen.
