I actually put my fam on pause a few years ago and only deal with them in very measured doses (e.g., funerals). So when grandma died and my mom was all 'I need your help to go down and clean out her house' I politely booked my flight (they drove) and stayed in a hotel while they stayed at the house. Just better for my sanity.
