those who nominated him for queen were attempting to make him feel shame for who he is.
he can't stand up for himself physically, since he doesn't know who did it, and can't just go around fighting the whole school.
So his method of defense was to own it. To say, okay if you're gonna nominate me as queen, thinking it's some kind of joke, I'm gonna WIN, and be the most fabulous queen I can be.
It may not be the course of action you or I would take, but it's meant to be self defense.
