You can point out the issue, because you're socially well-adjusted. You hear what's wrong in their statement, but they don't. A lot of times, people say things like "I shouldn't have to tell them why that's wrong", but you do for some people. The messed up thing is when they do tell them, they do it so condescendingly that the message is lost, so the person's defensive stance is understandable.
