13284062, Twitter is making us crazy paranoid conspiracy theorist / Zina Bash

I saw Zina Bash's name trending in my feed and everyone was zooming in on this video clip.

Folks were going nuts over it and I couldn't understand why. Then someone broke it down for me.

So from that video people came up with the elaborate story that she got a text from Steve Bannon telling her to throw up the white power sign because she was on TV?

I mean it's possible that might have been what happened but to be convinced that's what happened is straight looney tunes to me. And you can watch the echo chamber on twitter convincing each other that they know exactly what's going on.

What's annoying about the echo chamber of twitter is that if I or anyone else chimed in that it would be ridiculous to conclude that's a white supremicist hand singal then I or any other person saying that is somehow defending Zina Bash who all around seems like a terrible person who has worked for Trump.

I might have just dismissed the whole thing as crazy people on twitter doing their crazy thing but then I see outlets like the root and newsweek run with the story:

https://www.theroot.com/did-a-woman-sitting-behind-kavanaugh-flash-the-white-po-1828815716

https://www.newsweek.com/did-zina-bash-flash-white-supremacist-sign-during-kavanaugh-hearing-1105511

So much so that Washington Post had to refute the story:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2018/09/04/that-was-no-white-power-hand-signal-at-the-kavanaugh-hearing-zina-bashs-husband-says/

This discussion is a terrible distraction and helps paint the left as crazies. The right lives for these sort of stories.

Anyway, I wouldn't use the term "fake news" but we do have a media problem that I see no way of fixing any time soon.
