It's truly one of if not THE last genre of untouched, unfiltered, unappropriated Black music. I rue the day that Go Go goes mainstream honestly... I like the space it sits in. It's hyper local, hyper groove based, hyper evolving but staying true to it's essence....
There are SO many groups that have come and gone and made their mark that I couldn't even begin to scratch the surface... I'm sure more of the locals could chime in.
I first discovered Go Go in the 80's when my OG cousin came down to NC to visit and had Sardines playing in his whip. My young mind was blown and I was hooked. At that time my world was Hip Hop and I thought that was all there was.
I've been in the DMV since 99...
