Your position and Costas's and not entirely irreconcilable. To me it can be both, I can be happy Jenner is being honored but also acknowledge the less honorable side of the show. Let's put it this way, would they give an ACTIVE transgendered athlete this award? They have had opportunities and they have probably not even considered it. There would be controversy and a real face of someone who wasn't nearly as prominent or privileged. They wouldn't touch her with a 50-foot pole. Here they have someone who is safely removed from competition and a second-moment celebrity, so they are taking the low-hanging fruit. Think ESPN is progressive? LOL, look at the knuckle draggers they employ and pay the big bucks to.
