99488, THE 85TH ANNUAL COTY AWARDS (COMIC BOOKS OF THE YEAR)
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 12:40 PM
*COUGH*

*MIC FEEDBACK*

Uh... hello and welcome to the PTP 2011 COMIC BOOKS OF... 2011... AWARDS. Um. (Inaudible Mumbling)

*DROPS STACK OF INDEX CARDS ON GROUND*

I just um... ah... Due to a last minute scheduling conflict, I'm afraid... uh... Eddie Murphy will be unable to host this year's ceremony... But let's not let that stop us from having a wonderful night filled of comics, laughs and delicious Hors d'oeuvres!

*STAGEHAND RUNS ONTO STAGE, WHISPERS SOMETHING INTO HOST'S EAR*

I'm ah... also being told that Eddie was in charge of refreshments this year, so uh... there won't be any of those either. Um...yeah *COUGH*

*STAGEHAND RUNS OFFSTAGE WEEPING*

(BEGIN POWERPOINT PRESENTATION)

IT'S THE 2011 PREPPIES!

YOU post the categories! YOU make the nominations! Time to celebrate the comics that rocked us (and mock the ones that didn't) in 2011.

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO!

99496, Mike Huddleston
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 10:31 PM
This is the toughest category for me every year. Comics are an embarrassment of riches in the eye candy department. But between Butcher Baker and Homeland Directive, I really fell in love with this guy's style in 2011
99497, BEST WRITER
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 12:41 PM
99498, Kenny Keil, "Tales To Suffice."

99501, Oh shit! Snyper does Vampires!!!!!
Posted by JRennolds, Thu Dec-29-11 01:49 AM
AV has been crack all year. Do not sleep.
99502, I copped the new issue today
Posted by buckshot defunct, Thu Dec-29-11 02:20 AM
Cover was dope and promised a new storyline? Plus I got the first trade from the library a while back and liked it. Sleepy time is over... Make that FOUR Snyper books for me
99503, Jonathan "New God" Hickman
Posted by bshelly, Wed Dec-28-11 06:13 PM

99509, RE: UNCANNY X-FORCE
Posted by deacon, Sat Dec-31-11 02:07 AM
I agree, Uncanny X-Force is freaking awesome.
99510, Locke and Key if we count irregular shippers, Morning Glories otherwise

change of vote, wanted to give MG some love.
99511, Journey Into Mystery
Posted by cereffusion, Wed Dec-28-11 09:03 PM

Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 12:41 PM

99513, Infinite Kung Fu
Posted by lonesome_d, Wed Dec-28-11 02:01 PM
99514, I gots to cosign
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 02:07 PM
I feel like it was "supposed" to be Habibi... but 2011 was all about Infinite Kung-Fu for me.
99515, those might be the only two official 'OGNs' I read from this year
Posted by lonesome_d, Wed Dec-28-11 02:55 PM
except for maybe Korgi v3, which was also good.

But yeah, IKF was better... while Habibi's great, don't get me wrong, it was almost as though it was... just too much, if that makes sense. We've discussed it recently, so I guess that's no surprise.
99516, Same here. Those 2 and The Homeland Directive
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 03:39 PM
I'm perusing several end of year Top 10 lists online and requesting my library pulls accordingly
99517, unless Will Eisner does the White Lantern thing and writes some
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Wed Dec-28-11 08:10 PM
new shit just for GN format, I can't think of any other answer but this one
99518, Even then, the shit wouldn't ship till next Wednesday

99520, RE: Infinite Kung Fu
Posted by deacon, Sat Dec-31-11 02:10 AM
I have to agree also. I was fortunate to read a review copy. That was the illest OGN to drop this year.
99521, BEST SINGLE ISSUE
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 12:42 PM

99522, Uncanny X-Force #18 (SPOILERS)
Posted by JRennolds, Wed Dec-28-11 05:44 PM
Warren and Betsy, embrace in the falling snow. Fantomex, loses his first brain to a knife in the temple; his second mind activates shortly thereafter.
99523, Fantastic Four 600 is the best superhero comic I have ever read *spoiler*
Posted by bshelly, Wed Dec-28-11 06:13 PM
99524, EEEETASTIC but UXF had...
Posted by JRennolds, Wed Dec-28-11 08:44 PM
...the most cold-blooded ending that I have ever read in comics, B. It was not pretty but the entire DAS vs. Hickgod's entire lead-up to 600? No competition. HICKGOD, floundered before he found his groove in *that* epic.
DAS was flawless.
99525, Daredevil #7
Posted by cereffusion, Wed Dec-28-11 09:11 PM
99526, BEST "NEW 52" TITLE
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Dec-28-11 12:43 PM

99527, I'm going for Batwoman
Posted by lonesome_d, Wed Dec-28-11 01:58 PM
edging out Action.

Not going gaga over too much else from it at this point.
99528, Action is not really doing it for me.
Posted by JRennolds, Wed Dec-28-11 06:04 PM

It's the book I never thought I'd read, and now it's a goddamn Top 5'er (in terms of DC books at least)

Honorable mentions to the Men Animal and Bat
99534, RE: WONDER WOMAN
Posted by deacon, Sat Dec-31-11 02:13 AM
I've been buying this book for my girlfriend since the Straczynski run, but I always read it first. Of course, since Azzarello took over, I actually enjoy reading it first. And Cliff Chiang? That dude's hands are touched by God. Very solid book.

JUST LOOK AT THESE SHITS Y'ALL

The interior could literally be drawn by a nearsighted toddler with an expired mustard packet and I would cop this book for the covers alone. EVERY SINGLE TIME

(For the record though, the interiors look great too)

The most ruthless squad ever assembled was dissassembled in the short span of a few issues. Meticulously and piece by piece. Wolverine, you fail to factor in at all.

I'm tired of all the renumbering and renaming. It's a trend they think will lure readers but I think it will only confuse them - especially when it goes back to the way it was.

Shit, throw in FF and Daredevil/Black Panther weirdness. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

99607, The Stuff of Legend
Posted by lonesome_d, Thu Dec-29-11 01:56 PM
Y'all are STILL talking about Joe the B, and while that was The God and yeah, that guarantees you'll read it, I've been praising this one for 2 years now and I don't think I've seen anyone else comment on a single one of my always-positive reviews.

The series is on its 3d (I think) volume and takes the best of Joe's toys-come-to-life adventure (keep in mind that the first volume of this was out long before Joe) and spins it into a longer tale that hews closer to fantasy. The current arc (Jester's Tale) is about as good as comics get, in my opinion, and I'm the only one reading it.

HICK-GOD doing some creator owned stuff again

So, lots of IMAGE in my future...

Over at DC, I anticipate things with Animal Man and Swamp Thing coming to a head

And Marvel? I'll keep on keepin' on with FF, Daredevil and whatever Remender touches, be it Uncanny X-Force or Secret Avengers or whatever. Can't say I'm excited for X-MEN VS AVENGERS but that's not to say I'll be able to ignore it, either

Mostly I'm just wanting to be surprised though. Hopefully I have no clue what my favorite comic of 2012 will be
