I don't know if we are free on a social/economic/political/etc level. So much evil goes on in the world, and especially when it is not part of our daily lives, we tend to forget. Then we watch a documentary and get depresed... then forget about it again. But remembering wouldn't change anything anyway.

I think maybe we all have the capacity to be free (from anything - how hard we'd have to fight depends on free from what), but our human weaknesses make it pretty hard to believe we'll ever actually be free.
