<--- ...watch out Mountain West?
90713, Hornets aren't trading the #10 pick. GOOD.
Posted by Wonderl33t, Thu Jun-28-12 06:05 PM
And they officially extended the offer to Gordon, making him RFA. DOUBLE GOOD.

<--- ...watch out Mountain West?
90714, Okay, NOW I'm pissed for Ky Ky.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-28-12 08:17 PM
I like Zeller, but that's feasibly Sully, Barton, and Plumlee for Zeller. Too big a price.

(Or if you don't like Plumlee, Draymond. Or whoever. There's value at the top of the second for a team needing lots of help.)
90715, If the Cavs trade their three picks for Beal and a second rounder...
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-28-12 06:08 PM
... I will be sad.

I mean, Beal will work well with Ky.

But MKG, MAN.
90716, YOU will be sad? sheeeeeeeeeeeit
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Jun-28-12 06:09 PM
they falling for that Beal SICE!! Dammit, Chris!!
90717, If the Cavs feel like Beal is the guy, then I'm with it
Posted by kevlar skully, Thu Jun-28-12 06:24 PM

I'll be very happy with either Beal or MKG but Beal can fucking shoot the ball

now if the take Barnes over MKG, I'll be salty even though I wouldn't be too mad at drafting Barnes, just not over MKG
90718, i still dont get MKG hype

90758, has a college bench player ever been drafted top 5? nm
Posted by d., Thu Jun-28-12 06:58 PM

___
90759, Marvin Williams
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-28-12 07:00 PM
But the difference here is that Waiters was actually Cuse's best player even though he didn't start.

Williams was 4th or 5th best player on UNC and went high on "potential".
90760, Will Georgetown have anyone drafted?
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-28-12 06:58 PM
I don't pay much attention to mid-majors.
90761, yes + they outperform their draft spot
Posted by thejerseytornado, Thu Jun-28-12 07:00 PM
nba teams go for flash, not fundamentals.

-----------
It's only funny till someone gets mad. Then it's hilarious.
90762, NBA teams go for talent, which Georgetown doesn't recruit much of anymore
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-28-12 07:07 PM
90763, excluding melo, name another cuse all-star since 2000
Posted by thejerseytornado, Thu Jun-28-12 07:11 PM
good nba talent coming out of cuse, eh?

hell, name a 'cuse player that hasn't been a bust since melo.

-----------
It's only funny till someone gets mad. Then it's hilarious.
90764, I wouldn't call Hakim Warrick a bust
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-28-12 07:17 PM
I think Fab Melo can have a decent career.

And believe it or not, I still think Flynn could shed that bust label. I don't think he'll be a star, but in the right situation he could be pretty solid.
90765, Flynn needs the right situation
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-28-12 07:21 PM
Minnesota was probably the worse fit out there for him as a young PG. Bad team, bad coach, instablity, and the TRIANGLE. If you're running the triangle, why the hell would you draft Flynn?

And then the hip injury really set him back, because his game is based on quickness.

With the right fit, I still think he could develop into a solid PG.

90766, at least there's a recent trend of producing high picks
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-28-12 07:17 PM
Flynn at 6, Johnson at 4, now Waiters at 4. Their must be something there for these guys to be picked that high.

Warrick definitely isn't/wasn't a "bust" for where he was picked. Same with Donte Greene, really.

One thing all these guys have in common, is that they consistently beat Georgetown.
90767, hakim warrick's the best you got
Posted by thejerseytornado, Thu Jun-28-12 07:26 PM
i think my case is made.

-----------
It's only funny till someone gets mad. Then it's hilarious.
90768, #6 pick in '09, #4 in '10, #4 in '12
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-28-12 07:38 PM
The trend will only continue as recruiting keeps on rolling, and Cuse keeps on winning.

Meanwhile you can talk yourself into "well, well, umm...Georgetown's players have fundamentals!" while watching mediocre squads in a half empty arena.

My point is made here.
90769, 2 of those 3 are busts for the teams that drafted them
Posted by thejerseytornado, Thu Jun-28-12 08:06 PM
the 3rd just got drafted tonight.

good job.

90773, Hollis Thompson will get drafted
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 07:13 PM
Should stick around the league
90774, Nah, I don't think so. Dion's the truth
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-28-12 06:59 PM
I think he'll play well with Kyrie
90775, Tek4Mula and SoulHonky provide the same view i have
Posted by thejerseytornado, Thu Jun-28-12 07:02 PM
minus the heated college rivalry.

i don't get the fit, i don't think he's ever gonna be much of a defender, and as a scorer, he's good, but that's not #4 pick worthy and he's not much of an asset on offense without the ball.

-----------
It's only funny till someone gets mad. Then it's hilarious.
90776, Dion will be in the league for years but I think as a 6th man
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 07:14 PM
He'd have made sense for Phoenix or Toronto but I really don't get him alongside Kyrie.
90777, He will be the bust of the draft....I'm quite sure.

Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-28-12 06:55 PM
I like Dion, dude is a beast. Nice backcourt with Kyrie
90780, I like Waiters but I'm not sure about the fit
Posted by Tek4mula, Thu Jun-28-12 06:59 PM
I don't know that pairing Irving with a 6'4" 2-guard who's not that great at spot up shooting and plays his best when he's got the ball in isolation situations and can attack the rim.

I think he'll be pretty good but I'm not sure he'll really be able to combine with Irving all that well. If they end up having to take turns on offense that probably isn't the best fit.
90781, I think he can still develop a consistent j
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-28-12 07:14 PM
it's not as ideal a fit as Beal would have been but they're both talented and can learn to play with each other.

If they can get another shooter they can make it work with two guys that like to drive. Kyrie's j is gonna get better too.
90782, he shut down his workouts early so the Cavs must had already...
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Jun-28-12 06:57 PM
given him a promise
90783, Waiters makes zero sense for Cleveland.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 06:58 PM
I can't believe they went with him. Terrible. I think Dion will be a very nice sixth man and scoring pop off the bench but Barnes just seemed like a no brainer there.

Why pair a top PG with a guy who works best with the ball in his hands?
90784, No... Barnes... would have been a problem
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Jun-28-12 07:00 PM
I don't know what they were thinking with Waiters if they were going SG that's not named Bradley Beal
90785, Kings got next

I aint mad at the dion pick, hell dude may be a beast (I'd take him on the Bulls) but I KNOW that ain't the pick most Cavs/North Kyriea fans wanted.

Hmm...

90819, What you think of the Dion pick tho?
Posted by auragin_boi, Thu Jun-28-12 07:13 PM
They may improve by 5-10 games this yr or not all.

Cavs are hard as hell to peg right now.

We know Ky gonna get better, I think Tristian will too and Andy will be healthy. Dion a workhorse so he gonna go but I dunno. Tristian could also have growing pains without Jamison there to hog the shots and then expectations get lumped on him. Dion could not be a good fit...Andy seems a lil injury prone.

Anywho...what you feelin' doc?
90820, my first impression is that they reached high like the Commodores
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Jun-28-12 07:17 PM
for a 6th man

I'm still kinda mad since they could have gotten Lamb if they were gonna go for that position. he was better.

I wouldn't have been mad if they got Waiters at #24

but I just ain't confident that he'll be that much of a difference soon enough to build this team into something.

and I'm aware of the Varejao issue... that's why I was hoping, praying Cheese Eyes didn't fuck it up. Because I knew Beal was gone at 3.
90821, Waiters seems like a Terry Porter/Mario Elie/Ben Gordon hybrid

90822, He's higher risk/higher reward than Barnes.

I'm mad... but I guess less mad than a pussy-ass safe pick.

I might feel different if/when they fight for the rock tho. Let's see if Dion learns to have a good attitude from Ky Ky.
90823, Yeah from the handful of Cuse games I caught...Dion didnt see

I understand the pick value-wise, but I'm just not excited about adding an athletic but soft, jump shooting wing to the team. I mean, best case scenario maybe he's another Rudy Gay or Danny Granger which is fine, but it doesn't really address the serious problems the Warriors have.
90833, Oh btw.. The ineptitude of the cavs front office is on display tonite

90849, Drummond is a good risk at 9

Man, Drummond and Monroe could be VERY nice in a few years.

Andre could be a huge bust but at 9, I think you have to roll the dice on him.

Hornets already have Jarret Jack and Gordon at the 1 and 2, both are good scorers.

<--- ...watch out Mountain West?
90858, Sign-and-trade; Don't overpay him
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 07:32 PM
Gordon doesn't even want to be in N'Awlins. Move him.

And I do think Austin will play some point in the pros.

90860, They are but I think they still can work one out for him

He's going to get a stupid offer from somebody like the Nets (after they whiff on Deron) so I'd hope to move him.

90871, I'm guessing he's insurance for Gordon leaving
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-28-12 07:33 PM

Rivers is a better 2 than 1 IMO.

Jarrett Jack is fine. At the very least, Rivers ain't a better point than him.

They traded Chase for the 18 and took a guy at 12 who might not be better than him?

Worth a risk I get but I have a feeling that, for all of his wheeling and dealing, the Rockets won't be any better off than they were a week ago.
90891, lmao @ Buddinger being better than Lamb

while playing with 2 pg's who couldn't run an offense, inept bigs who had no concept of setting a screen or being capable of being a legit post presence, and a coach who was absent for most of the year. But yea, Terrence Ross had a more impressive season when his squad couldn't earn a tourney berth in the worst major conference in CBB history and they were more talented than any other squad in said conference.

I'm just not going to get butt hurt over someone disagreeing with me on a draft prospect.

I don't mind missing out on him but I'm not gonna pretend to be happy about Markless either, I would have rather Terrence Jones or even Royce Da 6'8" (something's up with Perry Jones' knee so I won't kill them on that).

I can't get excited about another young tweener-forward to watch grow on the job.

C'mon now, he's a solid rebounder and shot blocker, he improved drastically from frosh to soph year, no reason to think he can't keep improving
90990, I have no faith in him
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 08:51 PM
Ugh.
90991, he's Oliver Miller without the offensive ability
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-28-12 11:51 PM
.
90992, Melo= 7 feet and not fat, Miller = 6'9 and fat
Posted by DJR, Fri Jun-29-12 12:03 AM
I don't see the comparision at all.

There have been a lot of 7 footers who can block shots, with some athletic ability, that are very raw offensively. Some of them develop, some don't. Fab's not a bad pick late in the first round, if you can afford to give him a few years to develop. He's only been playing basketball for like 5 years. He made a huge jump last year.
90993, Agreed..it's a bad comparison
Posted by guru0509, Fri Jun-29-12 12:10 AM
In case he was referring to Sullinger ..it's a bad comparison as well

Sully is way more technically sound and a much better shooter..Hea going to lose some weight this summer, I'm curious as to how skinny they want him..

90997, needs more range, but a beast of a scorer.
Posted by thejerseytornado, Fri Jun-29-12 10:24 AM
high effort, young, clearly going to get better if coached up. other BE coaches *very* happy he declared because he was going to destroy teams single-handedly next year as a sophomore.

basically your best bet is to hope he develops like Dalembert & then either pay him money he doesn't deserve or let him go?
90999, basically, and I think Dalembert is a pretty decent comparision
Posted by DJR, Fri Jun-29-12 10:00 AM
Much like Melo, he left college after 2 years with a raw offensive game but as a very good shotblocker. Late 1st rounder. If I remember right, Dalembert hadn't been playing ball real long either.

It wouldn't surprise me either way on Melo though. I think his ceiling offensively could be higher than Dalemberts, but he has a lot of work to do to get there.

At the worst, he's a legit 7 footer with size who can block shots. He can go either way, but that's not a bad guy to pick late in the 1st. And his rapid improvement from freshman year(when he sucked) to sophomore year has to be a good sign.
91000, BUT NOW I HAVE TO ROOT FOR A CUSE GRAD!

91001, well, he was Big East defensive player of the year
Posted by DJR, Fri Jun-29-12 10:44 AM
it's not like he didn't do anything. He was a huge defensive presence, and could've scored more than he did....they just had a lot of balance offensively. He was efficient in his touches at least.

They weren't nearly as good of a team without him.

Another guard that will not pan out. Not because he cannot play, but because the Wizards cannot develop talent. It is not a draft if the Wizards do not draft a guard or a small forward.

At least draft a young big man. Zeller would have been ideal. The kid is tough and can play and would've made an immediate difference.

Kind of like Lavoy Allen last year (although their personalities and backgrounds are VERY different), he is a guy who wasn't comfortable being the main man and now he won't have to be. He can specialize and do his own thing. Needs to get a little nastier and more consistent, sure, but I would not count him out in making the right adjustments.

Cavs could have been Lamb, P-Jones, Miller and a throwaway? could have Ross or some other dudes? Could have had Waiters if they really wanted him with a later pick?!!!!!

they have no one who knows basketball over there.

this was the one thing I was waiting for all season. because I knew last season would be at best a Kyrie showcase.

now it's gonna be that shit all over again?

goddammit. why the fuck does this team get saddled with such ineptitude?

I'd rather root for the KNICKS!!!
91092, Great spot for PJIII...no pressure, transition team, can fill some gaps
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu Jun-28-12 09:21 PM
Dude has more time to develop now and I dunno if there's a better environment than with the culture of that OKC team.
91093, WOOOWWWWWWWW GARPAX...

91097, Nice move for Bulls. Solid backup PG in Teague.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 09:22 PM
Didn't really love any of the remaining shooting guards. Liked Teague better.
91098, ***smiles*** 4 Down 2 to go UK Wildcat Basketball

91099, I can't hate on my bulls, sticking with the plan, CJ or JL3 is gone

91100, Just got back from the bar
Posted by numark216, Thu Jun-28-12 09:34 PM
Way to piss away all that goodwill... thanks Chris Grant. A ball dominating mini-2 guard with no jumper? It's all the worst things in brad beal.

Chris Grant loved the Dejuan Wagner era so much that he wanted to try it again.

Oh and taking 3 picks to get Zeller when you could have gone PJ3/Quincy Miller/Shooter X? Ok den.

There's nary a starting 3 on this roster and they're going to get murdered on D on the wings. Cant. Wait.

Sacto is about to be a PROBLEM. Niggas are about to learn some shot selection with Cuz and Rob up front. "All offensive board everything"
91101, dude is just dead in my eyes
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Jun-28-12 09:36 PM
seeing what could have been picked

Lamb, Jones, Miller...

and ending up with Waiters, Zeller, and NO picks until who knows when?

91102, fam, I dont know if you're drunk or not...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-28-12 09:38 PM
but your analysis has me crying. good shit.
91103, one hunnid % sober
Posted by numark216, Thu Jun-28-12 09:43 PM
My nigga and I literally left one bar after the Waiters pick because we couldnt stay in the place where that went down. I had to drive tho, so I kept if fonky and relaxed.

That's all clear-headed reason
91104, I'm sorry but Draymond Green is not an NBA player to me
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-28-12 09:35 PM
.
91105, Yeah. I'm not seeing it either.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 09:37 PM
Seems like a good kid but I don't see him fitting in at the pro level as anything more than a back of the bench/very end of the rotation type guy.
91106, dude is like Dejuan Blair light

91109, Jae Crowder is a nice fit for the Mavs.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 09:41 PM
Not completely sold on him as a pro but this is a perfect spot for him, probably playing with Dirk or Marion when he gets into games.
91110, Quincy Miller to the Kings would give them a great draft.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-28-12 09:47 PM
91111, you better shoot 100% against the Kings...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-28-12 09:50 PM
because you are NOT getting rebounds.
91112, FACT
Posted by select_from_where, Thu Jun-28-12 10:06 PM
91113, Because I'm a T-Rob fan, I'm adopting Sacto
Posted by auragin_boi, Thu Jun-28-12 10:31 PM
People keep bullshitting but his skillset looks a lot like Blakes except he's a lil less explosive but has a better jumper.

His handle is already on par with blakes (may even be better).

I've said it before and I'll say it again. In 5-10 yrs we might be saying he was the best player in this draft.

The only thing that scares me is Sacto's wack ass front office.

They snag GREAT talent but don't have the staff to nurture it.

If SA's staff had the Kings roster, they'd be where the clippers were this yr...add T-Rob and they should be a WCF contender at minimum based on talent.

Cuz
Reke
Isiah
Jimmer
Thompson
Greene
T-Rob

You got, slasher, speed, shooter rebounding, shot blocking and scoring inside and out.

They get a deadeye like Korver and a pass first guard (Kendall woulda been great for them even tho Isiah ain't bad) and they'd be set.
91114, exactly...dude is strong, explosive...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-28-12 10:33 PM
runs like a deer and has a lil trailing jumper, to boot. That's my dude. I'm gonna have to start staying up late to watch their games.
