you serious?

let me spell it out carefully.....

ever watch the guy play?
ever see him work in the post?
ever watch him play defense?
ever hear his dramatic story of where came from to achieve all he did?
ever hear of how he was a soccer player for his entire life before some guy brought him a basketball?
ever look at the guys name?

if not, do some research on all of the above and if you still dont get it, shoot yourself.

LOL...at least imma have a archived post in
this bitch!

props to Lou for the right answer, i guess it makes sense

but yall act like thats common knowledge or some shit..

by that token, every African player with aspirations
to play pro ball must be a dream.

hell, Dikembe is a dream then, DeSagana Diop should be one too.
yo, Yinka Dare (RIP) was dreamy, wasnt he? LOL
cant forget Okafor either.

i guess the American media got yall bamboozled into thinking
all niggas from across the waters are living the
"American Dream" simply by having the talent or potential
to ball here in the States. Typical American arrogance!

teh dream element had to do with

-it SOUNDED good, it rhymed with hakeem
-his style/ability of play... "coaches dream", etc...
-PLUS the success story... deke aint exactly a "dream" on the court... deke aint got rings

its a multitude of things that make sense about the name...
26943, RE: no... look.... you got it twisted
Posted by melmag, Tue Aug-30-05 02:57 PM
>teh dream element had to do with

i suppose

>-it SOUNDED good, it rhymed with hakeem
good point!

>-his style/ability of play... "coaches dream", etc...

i doubt this is relevant to him being called that though.
it was more the 'foreigner' factor than anything else

>-PLUS the success story... deke aint exactly a "dream" on the
>court... deke aint got rings

but hakeem was being called 'dream' waaaay before he won
any rings

>its a multitude of things that make sense about the name...

true, but how is this so obvious to an outsider?

Oluwaseun

"When I walk into the bank its like loggin' on AOL... they're like 'Welcome you got mail"
26944, not saying it was
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Aug-30-05 03:21 PM
but the rhyming thing should have been VERY obvious...

i was more addressing your thoughts of teh africa thing... and i should have never mentioned the rings, thats irrelevant. deke simply was nowhere near the player dream was...diop as well... what i am saying is that his play was part of what was deserving of the name

the africa thing i believe is also a part of it.... because its not so much the "poor soccer player from africa...." element as much as it is the ".....becomes dominant american collegiate and professional basketball player" element.. in other words its about what he became.... diop or deke dont have the name "dream" because it really doesnt apply.... everyone who makes it to the biggest stage in anything lives out a dream in that case... so coming from africa alone has nill to do with it.... it has to do with coming from africa, playing soccer, never touching a basketball, and then turning into a dominant monster of a playerand beating up on all the worlds best players on their own turf.... THATS where the emphasis is IMO.

the 'rhyme' factor was obvious.
no shit, einstein!

i was more questioning the term 'dream'
as applied to hakeem itself...

how would 'dream' be so blatantly obvious to an
outsider who doesnt watch b-ball?

yall mofos clown, but i still aint got ONE
answer to that

from the replies in this post, yall seem to think/imply
the term 'dream' applied solely cus it rhymed with
hakeem, goes to show how much yall niggas know.

again outside of sports fans, who knows hakeem's story?
the nigga coulda been called "hakeem the king."
that also woulda rhymed, and would been ideal
for the whole 'african royalty' angle,
but would an outsider have
known why he's 'king'??!!!!

my point exactly
