we SHOULD give people the benefit of the doubt when they say they have been vicitimized in some way...because ultimately, the Tawanas and Ashleys and Jussies are OUTLIERS. The overwhelming majority of poeple with the courage to report being attacked have actually been attacked and shouldn't have to be retraumatized by folks projecting their own doubts onto them.

But ultimately, the cost of the liars is extremely high. Now, even more real victims will keep quiet for fear of not being believed. This is why it breaks my heart so much if he lied like this...
