Bring on the Death Stranding gameplay!

I don't get (I mean, I get it in the sense of "I don't really want Scorcese to make a period piece about religious guilt when he's so good at gangster movies") the backlash against Bioware making a game that seems a little less story driven. I think the gameplay and the world looks pretty cool, and they've basically shown the same area twice so who knows but I think that game has all the potential in the world.

Beating Bungie when it comes to story is easy but I'd be very surprised if Bioware can match Bungie when it comes to actual gameplay which is what really makes people stay with a game for months/years.

Destiny's gameplay has been on lock since day one but after a sequel and countless updates they still can't pull off a long term vision to make you wanna tay.

Long term vision is generally what Bioware does best but when it comes to actual gameplay it took them years just to get it to avg actioneer level. I imagine a game where the worlds and basic raid/storyline ideas draw you in and you just 'deal' with the meh gameplay because the rest is so good

and the demo cut off before the boss fight, which is a place wehre I'd like to see how it's different from destiny.

Then a couple years later my son came along and I'd be trying to play against yall in the NFL and NBA 2K5 leagues with a baby on my lap. I just kinda blasted through that game, and I remember the story feeling like it came to an abrupt ending, arbitrarily.

I'm pending my Halo: Infinite hype until someone explains what it is. I have no love for the PUBG/Fortnite shit, and Halo 5 multiplayer got a little out of hand for my enjoyment.

Wanted to play Witcher 2 then 3 for the longest time but had no investment in the lore or the world.

Love that futuristic science shit, but it probably won't come out for another 2 years I'm guessing.

I respect CDPR and From Software, but the settings of their games have been turnoffs for me. The titles they revealed this weekend are right up my alley tho.

Probably my favorite game of 2017 which was a PS4 exclusive, now making its way to the XBox. I think more people should play that game, it was beautiful. Seems like Square Enix pulled a Tomb Raider 1 year exclusivity type steeze on Sony.

Those shots during Tsushima. The gameplay of The Last of Us 2; also, this'll be weird to comment on, but was that the first GOOD video game kiss? That free flowing combat, the quips, the cliffhanger of Spider-Man? The ongoing weirdness (and some vague answers provided) from Death Stranding?


The four highlighted games took this show for me, and then there was that cool ass psychedelic take on Psy-Ops (Control, right?) and the work they put in to Resident Evil 2, one of my most played games of my childhood was just icing on the cake. What a cool, good show. I get why the total conference nerds are complaining about pacing and a lack of information but people have been doing that with Sony conferences ever since they went this content dump route; I couldn't care less. Just show me the game and let me draw my own conclusions.


Microsoft made me envious of XBox owners in a way they haven't in years, but Sony still just speaks to me in a way even Nintendo, who's been really close with the Switch for me for a while, don't.

Each of those four featured games look like they could be system sellers. Sony with its first party developers is like if Disney started making 300 million dollar R rated summer movies. I totally understand why they put Days Gone in montage. That game could be cool but it just looks like it's a step or two below Spider-man, Death Stranding, TLOU 2 and Ghosts of Tsushima.

Sony is just dominating the game right now and that first-party slate tells me it's going to continue.

Other Thoughts:

- No Dreams release date is odd considering the hands-on impressions pieces a few weeks ago, Seemed like a for sure bet that it would be announced as this year's 4th quarter game.

- Im very here for the three games set in feudal Japan.

- I think EA fumbled the roll-out but the impressions of the Anthem demo gameplay on social media are really encouraging. I think it could be the Destiny killer if they get the post-campaign play is fun.

- Also, why isn't EA doing anything with with NBA Street and Skate franchises?

We know pretty much everything first party that's coming out for the rest of the PS4's life.

Sony's advantage is that the rest of the gen is a known quantity.

They showed way less unannounced games than the other conferences, but they probably showed the most actual game footage with them four titles alone.

PS5 will probably launch with whichever comes second.

Seriously considering buying Assassin's Creed Origins.

Also, while the numbers are CLEARLY showing that online multiplayer is the future of gaming...it was a thoroughly shitty showing across the board outside of the possibility of Anthem doing Destiny right for once (and Division hopefully getting it right the second time around).

I think EA will EA Anthem and mess that up but think Division 2 might work. The changes they made with the first game brought it back to life.

Not that this E3 was underwhelming, but I get a sense that 2019 will be the last hurrah for the current gen (aside from Switch, but I’m not even sure what gen that falls under).

I thought Sony had a pretty good showing. Last of Us 2 and Spider-Man look great. I’d need to see more Death Stranding but right now I’m not too interested.

MS’ presentation with Gears got me to go back to 4. I also may pick up Cuphead next time it goes on sale. Aside from that they don’t have many exclusives that interest me but hopefully that changes with their recent investments (although that wil most likely be in the next gen). For now it was just kinda like “that third party game looks neat, I’ll probably play it on my Pro”.

I don’t really care about Smash so Nintendo’s presentation was the worst of the big three. That said, they have a bunch of games coming that I want to play.

But I'm kinda hoping it's pushed until 2020.
