I'm very excited by this new hardware. Credit card at the ready!

Let's do this.

Guess I'll collect a few more bottle tops while I wait.
302741, Apple is DOOOOOMMMMMEEEEDD!!!!!!!

It just make phone calls, takes pictures, and plays videos.

Jesus, the iPhone 1 did that.

Apple = doomed.
302742, Can you ever have an earnest conversation about this stuff?
Posted by wallysmith, Tue Sep-12-17 03:37 PM
How old are we now?

Takeaways from the conference:

- X will sell like gangbusters
- 8/8s will sell like gangbusters
- iWatch3 will sell like gangbusters

Some gripes from the conference:

- No mention on the revamped UI on a phone with no home button

Is that reasonable? Can we actually have a normal discussion without emotions coloring our responses?
302743, I'm blah on most of this right now

>Takeaways from the conference:

>- X will sell like gangbusters

Maybe, but until I can *hold one* it's blah.

Pros:
A little smaller - but not much lighter.
OLED display could be great - could be a wash. (I bought a 65" OLED TV and it's by far the most impressive tech product I've bought in the last 8 years.)
FACE ID doesn't help unlock on your pocket - but if in real life it's fast and reliable it'll probably be a wash.
Rear camera seems like it's the same on on the 8 plus.
Front selfie camera is better - not sure if *I* need it to be.
Wireless changing is blah.
Improved flash is nice.

Holding it will make the difference - if it feels a lot smaller while having the same view able area then the price difference won't really matter. ($200 over a 12 or 24 month no interest loan is like $9.00 a month.)

>- 8/8s will sell like gangbusters
This is the sweet sot for me. Unless the cameras on the iPhone X are way better, or the smaller size just feels a lot better then I'll get an 8 plus.

>- iWatch3 will sell like gangbusters
I got my Series 2 less than a year ago. I don't feel it needs LTE - the improved heart rate monitor would be nice though. I'll probably sell my Series 2 and get a non-LTE one.

Did they explain how the LTE monthly service works? If it's $10 a month then it's not worth it for me.

>Some gripes from the conference:

>button
I bet this is confusing to explain - not great to start using, and then quickly becomes second nature.

>Is that reasonable? Can we actually have a normal discussion
>without emotions coloring our responses?

Why doesn't this phone solve world hunger? Why doesn't Apple pay ME to own one?

Until Apple can INNOVATE then it is DOOOOOOOMMMMMEEEEEDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apple outsells and outships all their android competition. Let's look at the competition:

The only competition in terms of size to the iPhone SE is are the Xperia Compacts. None of these sales, not devices shipped but sales, reach the iPhone.

The closest competition in terms of size the 4.7 inch iPhone 8 are the Xperia XZ1, Honor 9, and P10. None of these sales, not devices shipped but sales, reach the iPhone.

The closest competition in terms of size to the iPhone 8+ are literally all major American flagships since the footprint size is 5.5 inches and above. None of these sales, not devices shipped but sales, reach the iPhone.

Apple is doomed to the point that it can't sell any more iPhones and the world is ending. Meanwhile the One Plus 3/3T are in the process of receiving their final OS updates even though they were on sale through summer of this year..

I'm mad as fuck Apple didn't give us a 512 gb storage option. I can live without an LED notification light on an Apple device.
302744, The premium phones a thing that went away in the smartphone era
Posted by BigReg, Tue Sep-12-17 04:11 PM
When basically smartphones out premiumed premium phones, lol

I remember back in the days when us kids used to splurge on shit like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_8800

Lets see if Apple can open that market up again.

Me? Gonna go for an 8. My current 6 has fought many battles and the wear and tear are catching up. Trying to figure out the math that has me on the apple replacement plan but paying around what I am playing for cellular service/cellular payoff plan.
302745, Kinda weird ain't no 128GB options no more.
Posted by IkeMoses, Tue Sep-12-17 04:13 PM
I got a 128GB 6S with 33 gigs still free, so I don't really need 256GB, but 64GB ain't enough.

Apple still knows how to gaffle by avoiding the Goldilocks option.

Finally having wireless charging will be cool. I've held on to my 6S so long because I'm still not ready for this no headphone jack life.
302746, 256 > 128 in more than 1 way
Posted by handle, Tue Sep-12-17 04:41 PM
I have a 256GB iPhone 7+ now and honestly it's like having unlimited memory. I've got like 100GBs free so I literally have NEVER worried about filling it. Like the entire thought process has not occured since I went to 256GB.

With 128 I was more like 20-30GB away from full and I did always have that in my mind.

256 will be very refreshing for you.

302749, i need that storage so i can ditch this apple music shit

Crates is deep in apple music tho...lol
302773, Apple Music keep switching my radio edited music w/Dirty ones..
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Mon Sep-18-17 11:00 AM
...so my kids love Pharaoh Monch "Simon Says" ..but obviously i play them the radio cut where the hook is changed to "git-git-git-get up!.. simon says git-git-git-get up!" ..well here comes apple music somehow deciding i should have the fucking adult version on my phone ..that song comes on with the curses and i have to sprint thru the crib and shut down the apple TV where the kids are doing their little dance battle shit..

302785, hahaha...damn!
Posted by liveguy, Wed Sep-20-17 12:08 PM
302786, If the only music listening on the AppleTV is for the kids
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Wed Sep-20-17 01:31 PM
You can control if explicit music is available through the restriction settings.
302764, Hell I JUST got a 6SE after rocking with my 5S for almost 4 years
Posted by 13Rose, Fri Sep-15-17 09:02 AM
I don't move until I'm ready. I still like my headphone jack also that's why I rocked with the SE. It does what I need it to do. I honestly feel like I want to get off this train at this point. I don't want to keep upgrading but I'm kinda stuck, so I just wait as LONG as possible before I do it.
302756, looks nice but I have a 7 Plus
Posted by L_O_Quent, Thu Sep-14-17 03:23 AM
I'll wait until next year but I am curious about the reviews since it's pretty much the same size as a 7 but I like the size of the Plus.
302759, Nice to see people still cribbing WebOS in 2017
Posted by spenzalii, Thu Sep-14-17 12:38 PM
That whole swipe and card motif on the X? First thing I thought of. Even though the plat form was doomed for a number of reasons, there were some things WebOS just did RIGHT that even Apple can adapt now. I still miss it.

As far as the phone goes, it does look like a G6 with even skinnier bezels, prettier screen and frame, funny camera cutout up front and an ugly camera bump on the back (though it may look slightly better in person). I think the $1000 price is more a mental thing, as there aren't too may people that buy these things outright. As mentioned above, the monthly payment just goes up $8-$10. Note 8 isn't much less, either.

They will sell as many of them as they can make and then some
302761, Niggas talk about the Palm Pre like it's Illmatic.
Posted by IkeMoses, Thu Sep-14-17 02:44 PM
302762, LOL
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Thu Sep-14-17 06:17 PM
Right. Although, WebOS seemed really advanced for its time.
302765, Jobs won/Rubenstein lost.
Posted by stravinskian, Fri Sep-15-17 10:13 AM

But the wireless charging, too. That was maybe my favorite feature of the Pre, and I've been eagerly waiting for Apple to pinch it so that everyone else would finally get around to copying it.
302760, happy about the announcement
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Sep-14-17 01:16 PM
because 7 resale prices about to drop and that bodes well for future plans.

also, because wireless charging is going to be more widely adopted AND it's the Qi standard, which is used widely among those currently wirelessly charging. So thank you Apple, for not fucking everyone in the goat ass on that point.

iOS11 also coming out next year so I'm glad to see that.

also glad to see 32GB get the boot real quick. if you don't allow microSD, less than 64 at this point = bullshit (hello, Pixel). hated that they hung on to 16GB phones one year longer than they needed to.

iPhone X (I like calling it by the letter, because it sounds cooler) looks cool, jokes about the visor be damned. I want to try the gestures in real time.

but cmon. 1 stack for Animated Poo and Unlocking Courage. I gotta LOL.

302763, I ordered some stuff
Posted by handle, Fri Sep-15-17 02:20 AM
I got an iPhone 8 plus 256GB. I'm on the Apple upgrade plan so I'll lose the money put into my current phone - but my monthly cost will be exactly the same. Had to pay the sales tax up front.

Why the 8? Battery, screen size, same processor as 10, same back camera (thought telephoto is stabilized on 8 and f 2.4), and I don't think I'm ready to give up the physical button just yet. Front camera portrait mode and animoji don't push me over the edge jsut yet.

I have a feeling they'll make software changes to the X once a lot of people have them and the kinks are discovered.

So I'm still paying them $45 a month for the phone. same as today. (I know I extended the terms.)

I also got a NON-celluar Apple Watch 3 GPS. Like the updated heart rate sensor, the altimeter (which will help track my hikes - that's my primary exercise) and it was CHEAPER than last year's series 2.

I'll sell my series 2 (which is in good condition) and has Apple warranty for a few more days (so buyers can get Apple Care if they want) and use that money toward the 3.

302767, I honestly hate these installment plans which is killer for a family plan
Posted by Lach, Sat Sep-16-17 11:44 AM
I preferred signing a 2 year contract, paying $200 for a phone and being done. Now everyone wants a new phone? Hell naw. That's why I'm still rocking the 6 lol. 4 lines unlimited data plus everyone wants a new phone? Aint happening.
302768, Those 2 year plans cost more per month
Posted by handle, Sat Sep-16-17 12:09 PM
At least mine did - when they stopped those my bill went down by $25 a month - which over 24 months is the cost of the phone.

I think what usually happens in a month or two T-Mobile and Sprint will end up giving away phones for and it actually ending up adding $200 over 2 years.

AT&T has a BOGO for iPhone 8 right now - but that'd still raise your bill.

302914, Tomorrow is pre-ored for the X
Posted by handle, Thu Oct-26-17 12:12 AM
Going to get one and scalp it like's its a Cabbage Patch Doll in 1984.
302918, Got my 256 GB space gray iPhone X
Posted by ChampD1012, Fri Oct-27-17 08:51 AM
302919, ordered 2
Posted by handle, Fri Oct-27-17 10:53 AM
One gets here on Nov 3 - probably going to scalp the SHIT out of it.

Second one is 3 weeks later - may keep it and pay most with scalping proceeds.

gotta figure out how to sell it and not have the seller get my service transferred to that SIM. Probably have to open the box, turn it on, activate, remove sim, put in my old phone and send new unlocked phone to seller.
303016, Got mine last night.
Posted by JFrost1117, Sat Nov-25-17 04:46 PM
I did 0% research and didn’t realize it was a smaller phone. Gotta get used to it.
