lost his opening game and ran off 15 straight wins after that

I've seen SFV streamers browse this site on twitch, so I thought I should post it here since it is relevant. I don't want to open it up at work because I don't want to get too distracted, but hopefully one of your peoples here will link up the pertinent SFV bracketing info.
302522, KOF XIV finals was hype
Posted by IkeMoses, Sat Jul-15-17 01:33 AM
Xiao Hai got put in losers early, and he had a target on his back the whole
time, but he kept making comeback after comeback.

He almost reset the bracket in Grand Finals, but in the last game and last round ET sealed it with the ill Daimon command grabs.

Xiao Hai ain't move from his seat for like two minutes.

Y'all don't care, because KOF and that shit ended at like 2 am EST, but it was dope.
302523, Du's Guile sent Infil's Nash to losers. Obviously.
Posted by IkeMoses, Sat Jul-15-17 01:17 PM
302525, That sounds like quite the insane bracket.
Posted by Numba_33, Sat Jul-15-17 02:25 PM
302524, Fuudo done! Eliminated by Poongko's Kolin

302526, *Rips bracket up*
Posted by chillinCHiEF, Sat Jul-15-17 05:41 PM
I had Fuudo making top 8
302527, Battle of the Gods: Daigo vs Wong

302528, Injustice is such a terrible looking game.

302529, ESPNU and XD Disney is broadcasting SSB for Wii U Finals...
Posted by Sleepy, Sat Jul-15-17 10:32 PM
I'm pretty impressed. I didn't know that game was that big and had that type of following.
302530, SFV: Top 8
Posted by will_5198, Sat Jul-15-17 10:46 PM
Winners
Punk vs. Itabashi Zangief
NuckleDu vs. Kazunoko

Losers
Moke vs. MOV
Tokido vs. Filipino Champ

Punk and NuckleDu have been the most dominant players of 2017 and 2016, respectively, so no surprises. Punk has a history of sandbagging in tournaments so good to see him stay in winners during his first EVO. Kazunoko nearly made top eight last year (lost to LI Joe in the qualifying match).

MOV making consecutive top eights in this game and with Chun's slight nerfs is impressive.

I'm a Sim stan so I'm happy to see FChamp make top eight -- he plays the best defense in SFV. too bad either him or Tokido will be out right away.
302532, 8 different characters in Top 8. 9 counting Du's sub.
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jul-16-17 01:20 AM
No Boxer, no Urien, no Laura, no Ibuki in Top 8.

20 out of 25 characters represented in Top 32 (4 Cammys, 4 Necallis, 3 Akumas).

Only Alex, FANG, Birdie, Ken, and Juri left out of Top 32.

In my opinion, only Juri would have been a surprise in Top 32. Gunfight's Alex, Mena's Birdie, and Dieminion's FANG all tied for 65th and could've gone further if coins flipped the other way. Two Kens (Big Bird and Chris T) made Top 64. Again, no surprise if they went further.

The highest Juri tied for 97th. That's some true overachievement.

This is a balanced fucking game. It's chaotic and unpredictable, but you can win with most of the cast and you can be consistent if you're a god like Punk, Du, or Kaz.

Go Tokido.
302533, Glad Itabashi is in there. He's so much fun to watch.
Posted by chillinCHiEF, Sun Jul-16-17 03:05 PM
Maybe he can look at the tape from CEO and see how Snake did it, but I think Punk will probably win if he sticks with Karin.

Du should beat Kazunoko then get sent to losers by Punk.

I don't know much about Moke aside from what I've seen on the stream but I think he might win it.

Tokido vs FChamp is the most interesting one to me. No clue who is going to take that. Also, if you told me FChamp would be in the top eight at Evo I probably wouldn't have believed you.

302534, Champ made Top 8 for SFV, but didn't make Top 16 for Marvel
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jul-16-17 03:12 PM
How???
302569, Itabashi with the GOTDAMN HEADBUTT TORNADO > SPD PUNISH

Tekken 7 is a love letter to fighting games.
302539, They should have swapped Tekken and Smash.
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Sun Jul-16-17 07:59 PM
I realize there are more Smash players/fans, but Smash is so boring as a spectator.
302541, I left and made dinner.
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jul-16-17 09:17 PM
302576, The Smash 4 final was pretty sick. Although I agree in general.

302543, He merked Itazan, man. USA might really do it, yo.
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jul-16-17 09:31 PM
302544, He looked quite nervous and still got the 3-0.

A Punk-Tokido Grand Finals is my hope and dream.
302546, Punk dominating.
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Sun Jul-16-17 11:14 PM
302547, Punk da God got to Grand Finals with two 3-0s
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jul-16-17 11:15 PM
The kid is incredible.
302548, he's amazing. i was put on to him from the teabagging brouha
Posted by bearfield, Sun Jul-16-17 11:40 PM
as a result i was initially put off. after watching him over the past few months i've turned the corner on him. he seems to have few weaknesses but his spacing and reactions in particular are insane. i can't believe his how consistent and damaging his whiff punishes are. it's a joy to watch him fight
302549, This is the Grand Finals I wanted, but didn't think I deserved
Posted by IkeMoses, Sun Jul-16-17 11:51 PM
Gotta root for Punk off GP, but if he has to lose to somebody, let da God lose to another god.
302550, lowkey tho, it felt like the smash commentators were OKP members
Posted by NoFuture4Us, Sun Jul-16-17 11:56 PM
didn't it?
had the vibe
302551, Punk coming apart.

:(
302553, he was crushed, understandably, but he needs to brush it off
Posted by IkeMoses, Mon Jul-17-17 02:49 AM
he made Grand Finals in winners AT HIS FIRST EVO.

he took home $150k from Eleague.

he's still in first in the Pro Tour standings by over 300 points.

he ain't got nothing to prove.
302554, his arms were too short to box with a Japanese fighting god last night
Posted by NoFuture4Us, Mon Jul-17-17 05:09 AM
he has nothing to prove in the US
however; everyone and their mama knows EVO is the pinnacle of SF
it was pretty sad and amazing at the same time to watch Tokido just run thru Punk
the dismantling of Punk's game was damn THUGGERY
the only thing Tokido had on Punk was his years of experience and training with Mago
Punk although amazing, is still quite young and has a lot of maturing to do
Punk will rise up;no doubt he will, this is just the beginning
302557, Tokido is 32 years old to Punk's 18.
Posted by BigReg, Mon Jul-17-17 12:36 PM
He's got a decade of 'professional' fighting game experience; and has mastered multiple fighting games along the way.

Thing is that at that high a level everyone can do the moves so it ends up being a mind match and Tokido's OG status just gives him more tools. Punk should be proud of what he's done in a short time, but SF has always been a sea of killers who at any given time will snatch your soul, he will build from this.

302558, The kid was super nervous.
Posted by IkeMoses, Mon Jul-17-17 01:05 PM
His whole body was shaking when he took a sip of water.

First Evo. Playing Street Fighter in the same arena Mayweather and McGregor finna be fighting at in a month. Live on ESPN. Mama and sister in the front row. All of America on your back.

Plus, word is Tokido had been eating him up in casuals. He even mentioned in one of the interviews that he expected Tokido to make it out of losers and wasn't sure he could beat him.

Punk didn't drop a single game before Grand Finals, and then got 6-0'd by Muder Face, and I'm not surprised at all.
302560, man i was hearing tokido lit his ass up in casuals.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Jul-17-17 01:33 PM
302563, I'm a new jack to this whole fighting system thing
Posted by Numba_33, Mon Jul-17-17 02:54 PM
but I'm guessing Tokido was where Punk was at last night in terms of either letting or making the pressure and whole big stage environment get into his head. On more than one occasion the commentators mentioned that Tokido started taking up either yoga or meditation to calm himself down. In addition to that, he was taking deliberate deep breaths after each round, win or loss.

Not saying Punk is going to have to take up Bikram Yoga or anything like that, but hopefully he uses this experience and the anguish he's is feeling and/or felt last night to mentally make himself stronger when the lights are flashing brighter. He was visibly nervous at the first set on Sunday night against the Zangief player; it's pretty remarkable he was able to get to the Grand Finals considering his nerves were probably shot all of Sunday night.
302571, and Tokido himself has long been a bridesmaid
Posted by will_5198, Mon Jul-17-17 10:26 PM
yeah he's won EVO in a couple of games and collects Top 8s like candy, but he never seems to get past the "top" player of the scene during EVO.
302559, I'm super happy for Tokido. not concerned with USA losing
Posted by Wonderl33t, Mon Jul-17-17 01:18 PM
probably because I was never sold on USA winning SF in the first place. Tokido is as good as it gets, and what a performance he put on. That was a great top 8. I was also very happy about Itabashi getting in there and getting a W. I was bummed that FChamp wasn't able to close out Tokido, but I'm pretty happy with how everything unfolded.

302561, I woulda been lowkey salty if Champ beat Tokido.
Posted by IkeMoses, Mon Jul-17-17 01:56 PM
Go America and all that, but I don't wanna see somebody who hates the game (Champ) beat somebody who praises it (Tokido) on the biggest stage.
302568, FChamp vs. Tokido was the match of the night
Posted by will_5198, Mon Jul-17-17 10:18 PM
the back-and-forth adaptation was too good. Champ's spacing on those "empty jump" drills? Champ's anti-airs against demon flip and the fucking yoga gale air-to-air reads? the parries and mix-ups by Tokido?

shit was beautiful.
302562, This tweet tho:

MOTHERFUCKING GEESE IN TEKKEN 7.

BB/P4A/UNIEL/RWBY crossover?!! WTF?!!

Jubei playable in BBCF.

3rd member of Team GOAT for DBFZ revealed.

.......aaaaaaaaaaaand Abigail.

Sike.

Though I am mad that Ed's proper costume is gonna be a DLC/FM special. Capcom pisses me off w/that.

also, Jedah and Gamora (is that Zoe Saldana in Piccolo makeup?) were cool to see in MvCI.

MOTHERFUCKING GEESE IN TEKKEN 7.

302567, SFV Top 8 was godlike.
Posted by will_5198, Mon Jul-17-17 10:16 PM
way better than last year and a great redemption of the mess that was S2. if you didn't get excited watching those matches, get left behind.

Tokido is arguably the greatest fighting game (not just Street Fighter) player of all-time and he was executing at an insane level the entire night. also one of the most easy-to-root-for personalities in FGC history.

I gotta go next year.
302572, I'm trying to make it out next year too.
