not because the game isn't being played, but because of behind the scenes dealings with the rights holders.

In this case not Capcom, but Marvel. Those following MvCI know that Capcom hasn't been able to stream the game on Capcom Fighters or directly include it in the Pro Tour for mysterious reasons. It appears Marvel pulled out right after launch.
