you don't have to get one immediately cause it's not mandatory, imo.
i got one just so i'd have another full controller. my son just uses the joycons in the grip. i don't have an issue with the joycons myself and i play handheld 90% of the time.
I can almost guarantee black friday bundles tho. They always bundle with a game during Black Friday.
