Goes on sale tomorrow.

290306, It's very telling that Microsoft compared it to a Macbook Air specifically...

...

That's a shot at O_E by the way. This seems like a solid device. I wanted a surface mini but this is better than expected. I can't wait for the anandtech benchmarks.

The i3 SKU costs too much IMHO.
290307, they did it.

(typical Tom says, designed to "destroy" the laptop. it's actually designed
to remove the need to carry both a laptop AND a tablet at the same time)

was about to post this in GD, but I'll wait until the pre-order page goes live
290311, Man. You know what? I'm seriously considering this shit.
Posted by Invisiblist, Tue May-20-14 03:08 PM
Seriously.

Lemme get some people to tell me how it runs Movie Maker and Photo Gallery.
290355, me too man, me too.
Posted by xangeluvr, Thu May-22-14 07:22 PM
all i need it to do is run lightroom well enough. i've been doing more and more international travelling and something small like this would be perfect for me to do some editing on the road instead of waiting to get home to do it. for example, i will be in thailand next year for 2 months and don't look forward to coming home to my computer and going through 2 months of images. would be great if i could get started while still on the trip.

290350, If battery life is solid this is my dream machine
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Thu May-22-14 01:47 PM
I don't think that price is too much to pay if I'm getting pretty much exactly what I want.
291025, Loving it
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Tue Jul-08-14 01:25 AM
If I'm picky I'd say that the new pen doesn't feel as smooth to write with as the old pen, but that might be a matter of acclimatising. Loving the new screen, yet to see quite how good the battery life is, but so far life is good.
291030, seriously considering it compared to the Wacom Companion
Posted by hardware, Tue Jul-08-14 05:16 PM
291031, you might be better off with the Wacom
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Tue Jul-08-14 06:12 PM
At the very least try out the Surface pen. If you like Wacom pens the N-trig probably suffers in comparison.
291143, If I make a big tech purchase this year, it would be THIS >_<
Posted by mtbatol, Sun Jul-20-14 12:51 AM
This went from a growing curiosity from the first two Pro's to -WANT- status >_<

Device is cuddling my jimmies... only personal debate is copping the i5 or hold a few people hostage for the i7 varients.
291187, i'm trying to convince myself not to cop this
Posted by Playa_Politician, Tue Jul-22-14 11:39 PM
$1k hurts (i'm getting i5 at least). Just won $400 on a world cup pool so it's down to $600 for me, gotta hustle a bit more to get my outta pocket cost to $500 and i'll bite.
291438, Getting a lot of comments from clients
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Wed Aug-06-14 04:51 PM
I've been using it to take notes at meetings, get their signatures on documents and to show them how to use certain cloud software.

Even the iPhone/MacBook toting clients are taking notice, asking me what it is and how it works.
291442, I'm pretty interested in one.
Posted by Steve O Tron v2, Wed Aug-06-14 07:19 PM
I'd probably get the i3 version just because I don't like investing that much money into new tech like this. I'm not really concerned about the small SDD because I can just use a Micro SD, but the 4GB of RAM has me a little concerned in terms of longevity (and resale value).

I have a Nexus 7 that I've been using a lot, but the screen's a bit small, it's not as powerful as I'd like, and a tablet OS is pretty limited in terms of doing real work.

I'd mostly be doing stats analyses and reading science articles on the Surface, and having the pen would probably come in handy when doing presentations or lectures.

The 4GB of RAM and having to buy the keyboard, which isn't that great and kind of pricey, is keeping my from taking the jump.
291463, my friend has the i7 lol

291514, If this could run Mavericks then I'd at least consider it.
Posted by Kira, Mon Aug-11-14 01:41 PM
I refuse to run Windows no matter how good the hardware is.
291521, I've turned the corner on this. I was firmly in the MBA line but
Posted by ShinobiShaw, Tue Aug-12-14 10:32 AM
I think I might get this instead. I'm looking at the specs now and its damn near perfect for what I need. Just not a fan of windows 8
291719, This device is exactly what will sell me on Windows 8
Posted by mtbatol, Sun Aug-24-14 06:57 PM
...I'm still bleh on Win8 on my desktop.. but THIS? I'm in like Flynn
291626, i want one
Posted by xangeluvr, Fri Aug-15-14 05:36 AM
but damn they are expensive. i was looking to run adobe lightroom while traveling. wouldn't anything less than the i5, but starting at $1k is a little much for me right now.

291697, If you can get yourself an educational coupon from Best Buy
Posted by Steve O Tron v2, Fri Aug-22-14 08:29 AM
and generate a 10% mover's coupon (apply for a move of address and just cancel the request after USPS gives you a coupon), you can get whichever model with $150 off and an additional 10% off if you find an associate that will let you stack the coupons.
291707, RE: very smart idea
Posted by xangeluvr, Fri Aug-22-14 07:13 PM
i'm curious though, for the money would anyone just recommend a similar spec laptop, or is the portability the key here?

personally i'm looking to run Lightroom while travelling internationally. would love to get an i7, but i think the i5 would run LR just fine.

291657, such a great device
Posted by osu_no_1, Mon Aug-18-14 04:37 AM
A little high but if you consider the capability, it's worth it
