we traded one monotony for another, but at least the original was more immersive if somewhat broken. Some of those skyscapes from the original were fucking beautiful. I remember pulling around a corner a few times and just stopping, mouth agape... at a friggin' video game.

I think this nitpick falls under the "they streamlined too much" argument.

I feel like this game is awesome, but I miss the exploration, loots and customization of the first one.
